1 day = over 10 days
On 12/16/02 my wife placed an order for a PDA case as a Christmas present for me. She was impressed that the Office Max web site promised one day shipping. Her order was acknowledged via e-mail with a note that said "due to the volume of business we're doing you may not get your stuff by Christmas". A couple of days later she got a note that said the order had been sent to the fullfillment center - probably meaning that it was going to be drop shipped from the manufacturer - and we should expect delivery by 12/23. That didn't happen. According to the web site today (12/26) the order "will be delivered on 12/23" and has left the fullfillment center and "should be delivered shortly". Take your time guys. Christmas is over. How about December of 2003?
Update on 12/30/02 - sent customer service an e-mail asking about order status. Reply gave me a UPS tracking number and following info:
Order shipped from Tempe AZ on 20 Dec, destination scanned at OKC on 26 Dec. Now it gets strange. UPS tracking states delivered to Norman on 27 Dec - town is okay - but location is listed as "MC Woman". My wife was home all day and nothing was delivered. So I've sent another e-mail off to customer service and we'll see what they can come up with. Now we're at 14 days for a one day order. Its a he** of a way to do business. I refused shipment on an order from Officemax because I never recieved the promised discount price. But when they went to credit my card back, then the only credited back the discounted ammount price. On my credit card statement it shows Officemax charged my card $228.58 and only credited back $180.19, $42.39 short. Had to agrue with one CSR and went nowhere. He said it was my credit card companies fault, which was not true. The next 2 CSR said they would send the request to be processed and once it was recieved at the process center, it would take another 7-10 working days to get a reply back. It takes just seconds for them to charge your credit card and then it takes 2-3 weeks to get the right ammount credited back to your card.

Order was placed on Friday the 6th. It was supposed to be delivered with one (business) day delivery so I was expecting this on Monday. It didn’t come. Called to change the shipping address to work address and expected it to come Tuesday. Again, it didn’t come. Called and talked with very nice CSR supervisor who communicated urgency of order to idiots at local distribution center. Was told it would come on Wednesday. Instead, I got a call from distribution center informing me it will be delivered Thursday. All this delay being blamed on “paperwork”. I guess Officemax hasn’t automated much of their order system and it’s still run with a level of bureaucracy that rivals the Federal government. I’ve have never in my life seen a “one day” delivery being stretched out to 4 days. They should rename this “one-day” delivery to “whenever the hell we feel like delivering it”.
Most places would make amends to customers for circumstances that actually ARE in their control. Officemax so far has attempted none and treated it as “business” as usual. Ask yourself this question before you click the order submit button “Do I need it soon or whenever the hell Officemax feels like sending it?” I’m ordering this same camera from another retailer (albeit more expensive) and returning the one from Officemax “whenever the hell it gets here”. Officemax doesn’t deserve this business transaction.
Unbelievable!

Purchased SDRAM sticks based on the price after mail-in rebate. Never received rebates, thus I overpaid and will never shop there again.

Overcharged but supposedly will be corrected. Their site was not inluding ANY instant rebates in the prices although it stated it was so I was overbilled $19 + tax on my order.

The OfficeMax on-line price match "guarantee" of probably fine for rubber bands, but don't even think about requesting a price match on a digital camera, if it it more that a couple of bucks.
OfficMax mis-quoted their PM policy several times and even made up excuses about not price matching Nikons, which is not stated in their (published)PM policies.
Although the item was $250 difference on a $1200 camera, They should have done the right thing and honor a valid competing request.
They did not. Avoid this unesessary hassle.

Great expereience with OM, especially with disconts and rebates. Always receive the next day except for a DVD200i. It was on backorder (said that right at order time) and promised in 10 days, received in 8 days. Also ordered CD-Rs, CD-RW, varios other things with rebates.
I ordered an under desk organizer that didn't work out when I got it. I simply went to the local OM store where I received a refund.

This compnay has a bad habit of letting you order things and then never getting the item to you. Purchased items from them twice. The first time they led me to believe I would get the item and then two weeks after the purchase (product still had not arrived), the order was suddenly cancelled. The second time I ordered, I was promised next day delivery and now 4 days later, I still have no item.

Overall OK.
I found this series of rebates and deals where I can get a cdrw for $15, and went through with that. Prices, were obviously great (only because of that). However, they shipping me a slightly wrong order (JB600 instead of JB700). Also, they didn't tell me until I had checked out that there might be some extra fees and delivery times (it was supposed to be overnight, but it arrived 10 days later) since I was out of the 'trade area.'

I ordered a digital camera from officemax.com, and it arrived the next day. Unfortunately, it had a bad pixel which created a yellow blob in the middle of each picture. However, I called customer service (at 10:30pm!) and found out they could either come pick the defective one up and give me a new one, or I could go exchange it at the local officemax store. I exchanged it at the local store, and it was the easiest exchange I have ever done - they simply took the old one and gave me the new one, no hassles. I will definitely shop with them again when they have a good deal on an item I want.

Ordered a Cendyne 32x12x40x burner and had no problems/hassles. Easy order tracking, and very, very quick delivery (2 days, the office max truck came straight to my door). I set up the drive within a matter of minutes and I was burning CDs.
I also had a rebate going with the deal. I sent in the form and at this moment it has finished processing and is being sent to me.
I'd happily recommend these guys, despite the below-average reseller rating.
