Somewhat satisfied. I've had to change my previously negative review. I placed an order for a digital camera on 5/20 with a debit card. The transaction did not show up in online banking until that weekend. The camera finally arrived on 5/28 in perfect condition. To be fair, it did across the entire U.S., but still.
Normally, this would be fine, albeit somewhat slow. Unfortunately, Office Max's order update website is terrible. Do not use it. It said my camera was discontinued and that my order was "pending" and "processing." Instead, call the support line. I was treated courteously both times I called and only had to wait about five minutes to get an associate.
Verdict: low price might be worth the risk, but be careful, call the support line, and be prepared to wait for longer-than-expected processing. This review was modified by its author, Eximious, on

I purchased a laptop from this store which refused to boot up after only a weeks use. When I returned it, I decided that I would prefer a refund as they state in their "satisfaction guaranteed" that you can return the item within 14 days and they will replace, repair or refund your money. This is a blatant lie, as when I asked for a refund they would not give it as the box had been opened! They state that if you are not satisfied with your purchase you can simply return it. How on earth are you going to know if you are satisfied with an item unless you open the box and have a look?
Their guarantee of satisfaction is not worth the paper it's written on, and I will never purchase another item from Office Max. Buyers beware!! This review was modified by its author, smidb, on

Purchased an office chair from Office Max on or around the 14th of November. Received an order confirmation email and believed I would be receiving a chair. A few days later they simply canceled my order, something about a pricing error on their webpage. If a company can't even type in prices correctly, or at LEAST honor their prices if someone makes an error then that company does NOT deserve my (or your) business.

Changed my order from in stock to backordered 36 hours after the order was placed. Poor inventory control. Later cancelled the order. Still have not credited my CC. This review was modified by its author, ebaker, on

Your company has an absolute lack of regard for it's customers. After waiting NINE hours -taking a valuable day out of the salon to wait at my office for delivery-NO CABINET.I called customer service three times. The last time I spoke with Karen. She Yelled at Me and tried to be a arguementative.I told her not to yell at me.The conversation was combative and she was of no help.
To anyone @ Office Max who may still care about the customer:
Ya gotta dance with the one that brung ya!
A nine hour "delivery window" is excrutiatingly out of today's reality of doing business!
This reflects horrible -detached-indifference to the customers needs.
BAD SERVICE IS BAD FOR BUSINESS!
Also,When the 42" four drawer filing cabinet did actually arrive the driver could not lift it and struggled to put it on the hand truck. I had to help him get it up the three stairs. The driver was pleasant and did his best.He does not work for Office Max. J.Davis

Micro Center was selling Verbatim 2.4x 8.5GB/240 Min DVD+R Dual Layer 20-Pack for $27.99. I went to Office Max to see if they would give me a price match (they were selling the item for $49.99). When talking to the shift Manager (Arnoldo) he stated that they would not match the price because Micro Center was not a direct competitor.
However, on their wall in large print, it stated that they would give a 115% price guarantee for direct competitors and a full price match to non-direct competitors. I pointed this out to the manager and he still refused.
I then decided to call corporate. I spoke with Mary K. and she told me that it was at the manager's discretion to honor the price guarantee. So I asked her "Although your COMPANY as a whole claims that you have a price guarantee, Corporate will not force a store to price match to another store?"
"A price match is at the discretion of the manager. He can decide whether to honor a price match or not."
"So what you're basically telling me is that your advertisements, commercials, even that huge sign inside your store states that you have a price guarantee, the manager can just decide on his own not to honor it? Isn't that false advertising? Customers can easily be lured into a store believing that they have this guarantee but there actually is no guarantee that it will be honored?"
"It is up to the manager to decide whether to honor the guarantee."
I hung up and left the store, fuming mad that such a large corporation could be allowed such blatant false advertising.
Now I know that there is the idea that 'some restrictions apply' etc. but this is just plain BS. The corporation makes you believe that they have a 115% price guarantee for competitor prices, 100% price guarantee for non direct competitors, and at the whim of a manager they can just say no? I brought a legitimate advertisement (a printout showing the entire ad and another showing the details of the product) so I did my part in getting the price match.

tried to pricematch digital camera with bestbuy in their store and they looks suprised about their policy. First they said they only pricematch with staples and officemax. I show them their policy and they read it like never seen it before. they called up the nearest bestbuy from their store but the item wasn't in stock at their store. another bestbuy in the next area has it. but the manager said they will only pricematch to the nearest local store and it is final decision. pratically kicked me out of the store.
so i thought it might be the Aholes at the store and the next nearest store is about 20 miles. so i ordered online. called about the pricematch policy and they were not famaliar with it. 3 rep give me 3 reasons why they cannot pricematch. I read them their policy, after a long consideration, they agreed to pricematch. 4 hours later i did not get any email confirmation so i called and they do not have record about pricematching on my order. cancelled it at last and still waiting for cancellation confirmation. they need to get famaliar with their store policy. totally suck.

I purchased three items on 12/31/2006, with two of one products listed as being delivered in 5-14 days, and the other product listed as being in stock and to be delivered in 3-5 days.
On 1/3/2007, I received an email saying that "We have received and are presently processing your cancellation." I initiated no cancellation. On 1/4/2007, I recieved another email stating that the items were cancelled due to a typographic error and they were not required to uphold that price, thus they cancelled that item. This made no mention of the second product.
I started calling Office Max on 1/9/2007 to find the status of my second item since the website listed the status as "Not yet shipped". I was told that it *had* shipped and that I should wait a day. The next day comes and goes, and there is no product. I call again 1/10/2007. Same story. I wait another day. I call again 1/11/2007. Now they issue a trace in the system and tell me to call back in an hour or the next day.
I call again 1/12/2007 - it still says "not yet shipped". They say that it has shipped but there's no tracking number and that they can put a trace on it if I would like. I explain to them that there already IS a trace on the package. The rep then puts me on hold and speaks with a supervisor. They find that the package is "stuck in the system" and that they have now "released it". I tell them that I would like to cancel the order. She explains again that it should arrive in a day or two, and I explain my experience and say that no, in fact, I've had enough and I would like to cancel the order. She says okay and says she'll cancel the order.
1/15/2007, product appears at my front door. 1/18/2007, I call to explain to them that I have cancelled the order and would like to return it. They issue an RMA telling me that it would be picked up in three business days.
1/23/2007 11:20pm, it's still here. I call *again* - I have to explain it all *again* and the rep says that they have three business days from the RMA date (1/18) and that I must wait another day. I explain that three business days have already passed at which point he tells me that returns are "not an exact science" and that I might have to wait another day or two before they'll put a trace on it.
I ask to speak with a supervisor. He asks why. I explain. I ask again. He says "they're in a meeting". At 11:20pm Pacific time. Sure. I ask when they'll be done. He doesn't know. I ask when I can call back and be able to speak with one. He doesn't know. I ask when someone can call *me* back, he says they can't, and thanks me for my call.
I am livid. They took my money *AFTER* I had cancelled the order! Office Max has lost a customer for sure. I bought a more expensive shredder at Staples since these guys couldn't get their product to my door without me saying I don't want it!!!
Who knows how long it will take for me to get my money back. At no time has anyone apologized to me or offered me anything for jerking me around like this. What jerks!

On the 21st of December, 2005, I purchased a Canon SD400 Digital Camera for my mother's Christmas present. First, I tried to purchase it online and the website failed to work on many occasions. After fussing with the site, I decided to call in my order and was told that my product would arrive on Thursday of that same week (Dec. 23rd). I called OFFICE MAX the next day (Dec. 22nd) and found out that my credit card was pending and my order was cancelled. NOONE CALLED ME TO TELL ME THIS. I had to redo the order and someone called to verify my address. After that, my order remained pending and I called the next day only to be told new information: that my order would not arrive until 3 to 7 days because it was coming directly from the vendor. The representative told me that I would get the tracking number on Tuesday of the next week (Dec. 27th), and I called that day was told the same thing: that my package will take 3 to 7 days and that I did not have a tracking number yet, because the product had not left the warehouse yet. I called today (Dec. 28th) and spoke with a supervisor and was told the exact same thing. In addition, the supervisor told me that she did not have the vendor's information (i.e. phone number and full name of corporation). I called again and asked about canceling my order and was told that it would 7 to 10 days for the money to be refunded even though my order had not shipped out. Also, I asked for the phone number of the vendor again and the representative quickly gave me the full name and the phone number, which means the supervisor blatantly lied to me about not knowing the information, as I had suspected. I went to the website of the vendor, BDI Laguna, and they claim to be quick and efficient in deliveries. I plan to call them tomorrow to ask about my order. But i think the problem is mainly on Office Max's side. I am VERY VERY DISPLEASED WITH THE SERVICE. IT WAS AWFUL! I will never ever shop at Office Max again. After more than a week of ordering this product, I have not received the order nor have I obtained a Tracking Number.

They messed up more times than I would ever want to deal with. I used a credit card with online protection. So if there was a big hassle, I would tell them to shove it.
Thier ordering system is flawed, plus they outright lied to me. Then sent one to many items. 3 for 3 in every bad area a store can do to a consumer. I give them one bonus point for letting me keep the item.
If the item you desire is not stock local. Avoid this online vendor. This review was modified by its author, mibo, on

Absolutely the worst experience ever!!!
I order 3 Logitech MX500 mice.
First, Officemax.com shipped 3 Logitech MX310 mice instead, a much inferior mouse. Then they tried to get me to keep it because there's no way their system can be wrong. After going through multiple supervisors, they now willing to exchange it for the right items.
Well.... the items weren't shipped because they were discontinued. But did OfficeMax call me to tell me that? NO!!! They had me leave the box outside for a week. Because Officemax didn't know when the UPS man can come by and pick it up.
I finally got them to accept the return. I was told to leave the items outside my house, again. Well, it was not picked. I called, they said that there was no record of it being returned, so please leave it outside again. Guess what? I was not picked up again.
Called in again... OK, they'll take back the items and refund my money.
Today, I still haven't gotten a refund because they said I only shipped back 2 of the 3 mice. Dumbasses.

On 11/26/2004 [Black Friday]I purchased several items at Office Max.
The items I purchased all had rebate offers associated with them. 11 of them to be exact.
I checked my status online a few weeks after submitting them on 11/27. No record was found.
I emailed customer support and they stated that my rebates must have been lost in the mail and that I need to fax them. [All 11 were mailed individually and lost and they were being mailed to 4 different address']
I checked the status again about a week after faxing them in. Still no record. I went through this process 3 different times of emails and faxing.
On 12/22/2004 I called and spoke to a supervisor for at least 45 minutes. I say for 45 minutes as I am not completely sure how long but it was much closer to 2 hours than 45 minutes. During the call I again fax everything upon his request.
He could not find any record of them ever being submitted and went over the promotion numbers time and time again so he could submit them himself.
He wasn't the most effecient but was working towards a remedy of my situation.
Towards the end of the call and after he had submitted them all, checked them over and over, he located 4 or 5 of my rebates that was in the system. He stated they were no longer valid as he had just re-submitted them which voided any others before them. I was assured that there would not be any more problems regarding the 11 rebates.
A few weeks later I started receiving denials in the mail stating there was not a UPC code attatched.
I once again called customer support and they asked for the promotion numbers. They have record of one rebate and validate one other(which means it is just being submitted on 01/0/2004)Each inquiry takes her about 5 minutes. She doesn't find any other rebates on record and states I must fax them...again. The rep stated there isn't any supervisors available as she is the only person there. I ask her to look up the numbers individually and by my personal info.
After the first one she disconnects the call without saying a word, reall childish and sneaky. I called back waited for over an hour for my call "to be answered in the order it was received."
Office Max should be named Fraud Max.

Really a shame. I've ordered from OfficeMax numerous times and have never been disappointed, until now.
Apparently, they've decided that certain low-margin, heavier-weight items aren't worth delivering for free. Thus, they've made these items "unavailable for delivery in your area". Of course I was instructed to call some toll-free number to see if there was "availability for pickup at a nearby store" BUT, if I wanted to pick up the stuff, I could go to Wal-Mart or Costco and, in all likelihood, pay less. Bad move, OfficeMax.
Further, their definition on "In-Stock" varies dramatically from mine. Two items I tried to order were "In-Stock" but had an expected delivery date of 1/05! I mean, that's over 2 weeks.
Forget it! These people just lost my business......forever.

Purchased an item from the store, which claimed to have a rebate attached to it. 3-1/2 months later, I'm still waiting for the rebate, which is perpetually in "processing mode" and will always be mailed out "within 7 to 10 days" according to the Parago customer reps. Will never buy from OfficeMax again.

Called in a few hours after placing my order to cancel and was told it would be cancelled. The I received an email 24 hours later saying it had been shipped. I called in again asking that it would be cancelled. I was told they would email the shipping center to cancel the shipment. Package was still mailed out and I had to refuse delivery and wait on a refund. Totally not worth the trouble.
This coupled with the bad experiences trying to get any good deals from their weekly ad more than 2 hours after the open on Sunday means I will not shop Office Max by choice again.
