The unit was supposed to be new. From thrifty computer's product page: "This phone is BRAND NEW! Its retail packaged, included is the phone, battery & charger."
It is clearly a refurbished phone. The back battery cover does not match the phone, the battery itself is a no-name replacement, not an original Motorola. The charger has European prongs, not US, with a European to US adapter thrown in. The manual is for a generic Motorola phone, not a RAZR V3. The back battery plate shows scuff marks and the Cingular logo (a company that hasn't existed for years, now).
All items were unsecured and loose in the box. Items had been placed in plastic bags that had clearly been opened, crumpled and then reused.
The packaging is clearly not the original retail packaging.
This retailer has been dishonest and deceitful in this transaction. The item is not new, it is an obvious refurb.

I waited a week to have thriftycomputer cancel my order. They actually charged my credit card, called me to confirm my identity, and verified that my order was accepted. Then, it was canceled. When I called, the customer service rep was unprofessional. Big waste of my time.

I ordered a new Palm 755p Sprint phone. They were slow shipping it but that is the least of the problems.
I received the phone which was supposed to be brand new in box and it is obviously used. They also gave me a used battery which doesn't even fit the phone. Plus, they gave me a holster that is very used as well. The charger doesn't even match the phone to boot.
***UPDATE*** - I got a very nice email from the owner trying to fix the situation after I posted the review. There was a problem with the supplier for ThriftyComputer which is where the problem seemed to originate. The sprint models are not shipped direct from his warehouse. The owner said he ripped the supplier a new one. The owner was really nice and offered to send me a guaranteed brand new phone upgrade to a Treo 850. I have to admit his quick reply was timely and I am glad he wants to fix the situation. I'll update as soon as I receive. I have my fingers crossed!
****SECOND UPDATE****
I received my Treo Pro within 2 days of shipment. Alan M. was very good about informing me of the shipping process. The phone was brand new as promised and it is awesome! This company really went above and beyond when it came to customer service and fixing a bad situation. I will definitely use them again and can't thank them enough for their care and determination to fix the situatioN! This review was modified by its author, joshuadbaron, on

I ordered a new blackberry pearl from this company. The initial order took 3 weeks to be shipped, their excuse being that the phone I ordered was missing the back and they needed to get a new one from blackberry. When I did receive the phone it was the correct product but it turned out to be defective; the screen's backlight did not work. They were responsive to my complaint, and said they would send me a replacement if I shipped it back to them (at my own expense). I received the replacement very quickly (arrived within 4 days of when I shipped the first phone back). However, it was the wrong product-- it a different color and it was refurbished when the phone I ordered was brand new, and the box was missing the leather pouch that it was supposed to come with. I wrote them back saying I would keep the incorrect phone, but only if they refunded me the difference in cost between the new phone I originally ordered and the used product that they sent me. They agreed and processed the refund to my paypal account within 1 business day, and are supposed to be sending me a leather pouch (it should arrive this week.)
I guess the bottom line is that you get what you pay for. This company operates similarly to an ebay retailer would, and their products, packaging, shipping speed, and order accuracy are not at the same level of quality as you would expect from a big corporate retailer. However, their customer service department makes an effort to help and responds quickly (during business hours), and their prices are EXTREMELY cheap. If you are looking for a good bargain, and have time on your hands to wait for a product to arrive, are willing to pay for your own shipping and returns, and are patient enough to deal with incorrect items possibly being shipped, then buy from this company. If you aren't patient, then you'd better shell out the extra cash and buy from a larger retailer that has more streamlined procedures and quality control. I purchased a Verizon Wireless Motorola Q phone on June 24th and immediately got an e-mail stating I could track my purchase through a link on their website. I didn't receive a "tracking" number until a week and a half later. I then told ThriftyComputer that I could not track it and then they claimed that number they sent me as the "tracking" number was in fact not a "tracking" number. Then to make things worse, I eventually received the phone on July 6, 2 weeks after I ordered it. They kept telling me they had problems with the shipping department, then the sales department, then their computer systems were down, then their shipping company in New York was running behind....blah, blah, blah, blah.
The phone arrived in a white see through package with no manual and no word on the manufacturers 1-year warranty as Alan M. had told me in previous chat sessions. I guess now I have no proof for a warranty. While this company has cheap phones, their customer service and shipping is terrible. They charged me $8.00 for 2-3 day shipping when it cost them $4.95 to ship it with it arriving in 2 weeks. I would have paid for cheaper shipping if I knew it would have taken this long.
Also, the phone door on the back of my Motorola Q does not fit right, but I am not going to complain about it because I know if I try to return it I might as well wait until August to get that problem fixed.
I take my 3 stars back and give them a 1.
P.S. To the guy that shipped his phones back and they claim they never got them, my phones were shipped from a company in New York so you may have sent it to the wrong address. Just a thought.

Order on 17th and shipped a week(23) later with status instock. Pack with thin bubble sheet that several scratch appear. Shipping and handle is super-great deal as it take 7 days just charge for $8(Average $1+ per days). If you look for store that charge you way beyond legal hourly rate, this definitely a good one. Otherwise, stay away with it.

DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM thrifty computer! I ordered an LG new cell phone for my sons Birthday and it was in stock and was told 2 day shipping, I recieved it in 10 days only to find out everything was in spanish even the phone.6 weeks later the phone becomes very hot and stops working. I emailed them about it and I recieved an email stating their warrenty was for only 30 days and an I'm sorry. So I emailed them back asking what I should do.They responded back to contact LG so I did but they couldn't help me because the phone was from the uk. I contacted the LG in the UK, no response. So I looked thru the phone manuel for a phone # I called it but it was not in service. So I emailed thrifty again and Alan M. emailed me back and appologized and Promised me a replacement phone or a refund once I shipped the phone back. Now that they have recieved the phone they say they can't replace it because it's scratched up. They are not scratches but the paint wearing off around the edges. So now I'm out 86.00 plus 9.00 for shipping the phone back to them. I have already contacted the bbb Revised: They contacted me and will be sending me a new phone. ReRevision: Now they they agreed to send me a replacement phone. But I did not recieve it even though they say they sent it. This review was modified by its author, glogray1960, on

This is the most horrible seller I have seen. I ordered for 2 blackberry phones and they sent me only one. Intially they insisted that they had sent 2. The package is small enough to carry only one phone. After complaint with paypal they fooled me and sent a electronic notification to usps (to expect your package for mailing). Since the last week they had not sent any item for delivery to the shipper. Looks like this is one online seller who is fooling customers like this. Please do not buy anything from them.
It is 16th day since the order. Not received the second item item. I am calling them regularly everyday. They do not pick up the phone. When they pickup they always promise to send the item next day. I have not received anything. Neither they have despatched anything with the earlier usps tracking number. IS THRIFTYCOMPUTER (THIEF COMPUTER) LISTENING ??? PLEASE CAN YOU SEND THE ITEM OR RETURN THE MONEY??
Update: Received the 2nd phone yesterday. I have ordered for black pearl 3120, but, they had sent me titanium one. Atleast something:) and happy to get out of the mess. I will never buy from them. Will not upgrade the rating either. Others buy at your own risk. This review was modified by its author, shiba_mishra, on

This store is one of the WORST stores I have ever encountered. Placed my order on 5/8/09 and today is 6/3/09. Still nothing!!! I've called twice and the responses have been "we'll send it out tomorrow." I submitted a trouble ticket and the response has been zero. How are these guys staying in business? I'll call them again to see if I can get my $ back. I'll not deal with this company again. I DO NOT recommend this company to anyone.
I need to take back the above comments. I was contacted by the owner. He was out on surgery and apologized for the problems that was created by his employee. He's planning to fix this problem in the future. For trouble caused by his company, he refunded my money and still sent me the package at no cost. Now that's customer relation at its best. Thank you Thrifty Computer!!! This review was modified by its author, space_cadet, on

AVOID THIS SELLER AT ALL COSTS!
REALLY!
The price sounded 2good2beTrue, and I believe it was a scam! 2 months later, 8 e-mails later, 6 phone calls to resolve, and it took me leaving a bad RR to get it resolved. Customer service consists of 3 people who gave me a TOTAL run-around.
I think (maybe) they advertise outstanding prices, on products they never intend to deliver, and then (maybe) you buy something else at full prices. $20 for shipping the full price item, and no communication, no tracking number, and the run-around with every call/e-mail.
Be Warned!
Also, if you leave a nevative RR, they will say the date was wrong or some other bs to get it removed. This review was modified by its author, markrudin, on

Buyers beware,
I purchased and paid $162.95 + $8.00 shipping for a "Brand New" Blackeberry Pearl 8100 Unlocked GSM Cell Phone from Thrifty Computer on February 23, 2009. The webpage clearly describes the condition as "Brand New". I am happy to fax or mail the ad that states the condition as "Brand New" to anyone interested.
I was sent a used phone instead. It was to be a gift for my wife and therefore it was unacceptable. I immediately returned the phone for a refund and it was signed for by Thrifty Computer on 03-02-2009. I have made numerous follow-up phone calls to check the status of my refund and I am continually being told "it will be processed today". This has been going on for over three weeks now!!!
The return policy for Thrifty Computer states as follows:
We offer a 30 day warranty on all products. We will take your item back for a replacement or a refund. In line with our 100% satisfaction guarantee, we will accept items back for a refund / exchange within 14 days od delivery, if item is not as expected, not compatible or other reasons.
My item was obviously not as expected. I ordered a new phone and received a used one!!!
I have politely called several times and I have been been very patient with Thrifty Computer because I did not wish to send a negative rating. The UPS tracking documentation shows that the location where the package was returned is a residential address. Obviously, this is a small time operation that is clearly not ready for prime time. They took posession of the returned package 24 days ago and still they have not credited my account. Very, very poor customer service. Buyer beware.

TERRIBLE.
I ordered June 29, just received it today, July 14th. It was four days before I even got a reply to my numerous inquiries, then Priority (Super fast 2 day shipping on website)apparently took 10 days.
I WILL NEVER PURCHASE FROM THIS SITE AGAIN.
I don't think the guy ever sees the product before it's shipped. I believe he is out of Miami, but my product was shipped from Brooklyn. Yet he gave me "his word" that it was shipped, how did he know? I can see shipping was paid for on 7/4, but the Post Office states that it doesn't mean that the product was actually picked up then. If I would have known, I would have paid the extra cost on another site and got a NEW product (I could see on the box where these had been opened previously and re-sealed).
When I demanded a refund, I was told to "Send em back when you get them, thats the best I can do, sorry." --HOWS THAT FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE????

I ordered a Samsung phone on the 26th of August, it is now the 13th of September. The two to three day shipping, is a lie. I still haven't received my phone. I called six days after I ordered it, the lady I talked to told me it had already been shipped, and it should have been there the next day. I couldn't call until the next tuesday because of the holiday weekend. I then talked to a lady named Kayla, she was very nice. However she told me my order hadn't been shipped and asked if I could wait until thursday (the 10th of September) for it to be delivered, didn't happen. I called her she told me the other company they work with was having problems shipping (basically they were slacking off, not having problems) their items and it would go out the 11th. I asked her if she would give me a tracking number, and she said she'd email it within the hour of the phone call. She did not, and would not answer my calls the rest of the day. Now it is the 13th and I am waiting to hear what they have to say tomorrow. I want my phone, I've been waiting over two weeks and it's ridiculous. Least they took the 8 dollar shipping fee off...or so they said. I will update my review upon further inspection. I hope they read this and decide to take some affirmative action. Otherwise they will lose customers, and good ratings.
