This was my second rental from BorrowLenses.com. The people there are terrific.
My first order went off without a hitch.. this time however, Fedex lost the package for a couple of days due to the recent bad weather. I called up BorrowLenses and they (Vincent) went out of their way to do what they could to try to get me the lens I ordered before I left for my trip. Since I was leaving in 2 days and with 2 feet of snow on the ground here, there was no way they could guarantee a replacement in time.
2 days after I was already away on vacation, the package finally showed up at my local fedex center and was ultimately bounced back to BorrowLenses. BorrowLenses fully refunded me, eating the shipping costs PLUS the cost of not having that lens available for other rentals for 2 weeks.
When you're dealing with online businesses, and especially a rental business such as this online, you never really know what to expect when you run into a problem until, well, you run into a problem. Since the weather was partially to blame here, I was worried that I might get stuck with atleast some of the cost. These guys put my fears to rest as soon as I got on the phone with them on the day the package was SUPPOSED to arrive. I think that's a huge deal in the online business world, so I do HIGHLY recommend them.
With any online rental place, if you are renting equipment to take with you on a trip, you should always schedule the delivery to arrive ATLEAST 2 days BEFORE the day you will be leaving to allow for delays or equipment issues. If it's really important to you, allow for 3 days even. Of course, even when you follow this advice sometimes things happen that are beyond the control of the rental company and you. Lucky for me I have a local shop that had the lens in stock the day before I left (for more money, but what can you do), so ultimately I had the lens I wanted on my trip. It was just a relief to know that I wasn't paying for two rentals while on my trip.
