I have similiar experience with veryslick. I ordered D60 outfit and found an uncleanable dust in the 18-55mm lens so I sent it back for inspection. A gentleman called me and told me he can do nothing with the problem but he can replace me a BRAND NEW lens if I purchase 2yrs extended warranty and other items. I agreed the deal and received my "new lens". However when I registered the lens I found the card was filled by someone from Boston. The lens was pre-owned. and pictures took by this lens were not good. I called and emailed to them and finally I am happy I got full refund. Had it was a not filled register card, I'd nerver thought they sent me a pre-owned lens as a BRAND NEW lens. I thought I was just not luck, but now I believe I am not alone.

The original lens returned was not exchanged as there was no problem found. The offer to either courtesy exchange the lens was made or buyer could upgrade to a pro kit with an extended warranty for the camera (which he did not originally purchase) and a brand new lens was made. A brand new lens was shipped to the buyer. Buyer was still unhappy with the sale so a full refund was issued as an accommodation. |

I was one of the unlucky ones. Purchased from ebay a Canon XSI kit. I am disappointed that the item was described in auction number 200364923848 as new and never opened/sealed, but I received an open box grey item, with warranty card torn off and missing. There were smudges on the LCD screen. There was also a lot of dust on the sensor which I saw from performing the printout test on white paper. I needed it soon as a present for my kid. Buyer beware, I think they just try and send whatever they have and if nobody complains it is their gain.
this is a response to the seller's response:
I never received any advise on contacting Canon, nor was I given the option to return for a refund, I requested for an exchange which was never processed. Why in the world would a seller keep the portion of the warranty card. As far as I know, warranty cards are to be mailed by the owner to the manufacturer, not kept by the store. BUYER BEWARE!!!! Item was sold exactly as described. Factory sealed means as it was shipped from the factory/manufacturer. Items are not sold shrink-wrapped as Canon does not package them in that fashion. We advised the buyer he can call Canon to confirm these details. Warranty card was torn as the seller must retain the dealer copy of the warranty card for proof of sale for the manufacturer; again this may be confirmed. Buyer was offered a return for a refund of the purchase price as we did not want him to keep something he is not happy with. Buyer chose not to return the equipment.
UPDATE:
The offer for a return for a refund was provided in the voicemail left for you on 8/15/09. The copy of the warranty card you keep referring to is the "dealer copy" which we must keep as proof of sale for the manufacturer. You can confirm said details with Canon USA directly. |

ALSO I WAS PLAIN NOT HAPPY WITH THE PICTURE QUALITY AND I CALLED ASKING TO EXCHANGE FOR A CANON EOS 40D BODY AND THEY SAID THAT I WAS TOO LATE FOR THE 2 WEEK RETURN PERIOD. I WAS LATE BY 1 LOUSY WEEK! ANY OTHER STORE WOULD MAKE SURE THAT THE CUSTOMER WAS HAPPY BUT THEY EVEN TOLD BE THE OWNER DOES NOT EVER ANSWER THE PHONE. THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE. NEVER DEALING WITH THEM AGAIN.

I have ordered a used lens described as mint. The lens had several scratches on the front glass. Returned the lens, they have refunded only the price of the lens but not shipping and they are not returnng my calls or emails. Once I was able to get trough to their used department and they immediately hung up on me. Very rude. The lens is back on sale on their site with the same description and price. I researched and read a lot of reviews before ordering my refurbished D90 from Cameta. But the price was right and the reviews were good, so I took a chance. The camera came quickly, in time for my daughter's graduation which I wanted to use the D90 for. I was so excited.
Unfortunately, although the camera looked to be in pristine condition, there was a large blue line through the display whenever it was on.
After agonizing (cuz that's my style) I called Cameta and expected to hear excuses and recordings. Instead I got a real live person who was understanding and offered me the option of a refund or an exchange.
I selcted refund and then after an hour or so, I reconsidered and called them back to switch to an exchange.
They were awesome, even making arrangements to send me the exchange in advance so I didn't have to wait. Yes, they'll charge me for a second camera but they'll refund it when they get the first one back.
So they said it would ship second day air and be there Tuesday. They'd send me an email with tracking.
The email never came so I emailed them. I heard from them on a Sunday saying they didn't get the package to shipping in time so they'd ship it Monday and over night it.
The replacement camera arrived on Tuesday as promised and it's fantastic. Pristine condition just like the last one, but with no display issues. I love it!
And it's worth noting that Cameta gets the cameras from Nikon already packaged. They don't check them, they're relying on Nikon. Clearly one just slipped through the cracks.
I couldn't be more surprised about the quality of the service and professionalism I've gotten from Cameta.
They are a quality online retailer!

I bought a Nikon D40 from them, (came with the kit lens and everything else a new one would), a factory demo w/1 yr. warranty. I couldn't be more pleased. I plan to buy from Cameta again!

My experience with Cameta Camera was an absolute pleasure. They made the ordering extremely easy and were more than willing to accommodate my needs. My camera arrived within 2 days of my placing the order.
But I had some problems with the camera (Nikon D60 refurb) I received. It showed up hot pixels at low ISOs and high shutter speeds, which was uncharacteristic and it had 1600 shutter actuations. I was a little bothered by that and sent my camera back for a replacement. They were fantastic about it and sent me a replacement without any hassles.
The replacement I got had absolutely no problems. It had no hot pixels at low ISO and had only 5 shutter actuations. So, I am very happy.
My only concern is with the first camera I got. I am someone who does thorough research into the product before I invest my money. So, I could easily spot the problems with the first camera. Why would a camera, which is advertised as a "straight from Nikon" factory refurb have 1600 shutter actuations? Also, the packaging looked distinctly older compared to the replacement I received.
I only got the body replaced and not the 2 lenses I got with the body. So, I am wondering if I should have got that replaced too.
Nevertheless, I would still strongly recommend them. I guess I just got unlucky with the first one. But, do your research and know exactly what you are buying and what you have received. This review was modified by its author, Psychoanalyst, on

I purchased a Nikon D40x from Cameta - excellent choice! I got the VR 18-55mm lens. The lens and body looked NEW to me. They were Factory Demo - as CAMETA was very clear about.
This is my first DSLR - but to me, it looks and functions as new. Springs, buttons, caps,etc...all function as new.
Imaging? Unreal. I am learning the manual settings, etc...but couldn't believe what this camera did when using AUTO or Presents.
Cameta SHIPPED FAST (day earlier than expected) and came through on expectation.
THANKS!!!

I am so grateful for this site!!! I was going to order through another company but reviews were HORRIBLE! Due to the great reviews of Cameta, I decided to order the Nikon D90 (for my husband) through Cameta on Amazon.com. It was a refurbished camera and one of the lenses was refurbished, but when it arrived it appeared brand new!! It arrived the first day of the shipping arrival estimate so we were very pleased with how quickly we received the item! Email communication was adequate. My husband has been playing with the camera and is very pleased with the camera and everything that came in the package with it! Would I buy from them again?? In a heartbeat!!

I ordered a Nikon D90 and an 18-200mm VR lens. The salesman, Enzo, was very helpful explaining the difference between brand new and factory refurbished items they offered.
I opted for a new body and a refurbished lens at a considerable savings, along with a spare battery and a filter to protect the lens.
Enzo explained that standard shipping items would ship out in two business days. Almost immediately after hanging up the phone, I received an e-mail confirming my order.
Later in the day, I received a phone call from someone else to confirm my order. Once that was done, she advised me that my order would ship on Monday and that I would receive a tracking number by email that night. That is exactly what happened.
The items were well packaged and arrived on time. The refurbished lens was absolutely pristine. The packaging and documentation were the only clues that this item was not brand new. If I had it to do over again, I'd definitely consider a refubrished body, as well.
This was my first experience with Cameta Camera. It certainly will not be my last. This review was modified by its author, edsudlow, on

When I believe a company is worthy of a scathing report, I share my views. So, naturally, when a company is worthy of praise, I share that too. In my many experiences with purchases from Cameta Camera, I have found the company and ALL of it's employee's to be nothing but professional and "top drawer". Their service is outstanding and I would (and have) highly recommended this store to others looking for high-quality items at decent prices, backed by their good word. Case in point. I purchased a Nikon D300 camera from Cameta last year. The transaction went smoothly and I was enjoying the camera when I started having problems with it wanting to shut down at will. I called Cameta, and even though the return date had passed, they requested I return the camera for an exchange. Well, right away, I thought there must be some "catch". I'm thinking, "yeah, sure, they will give me a refurbished camera". So, I explained I didn't want a refurbished camera, I wanted a new replacement. Without blinking an eye, the customer service person assured me it would be a new camera. I returned the camera and I have to say, when I tracked the package, I saw that the exact day Cameta received my camera they sent out the new one. I had my new camera within a couple of days of returning it to them. A brand new replacement, no questions asked! I was (and am) amazed by this company and it's employees. They are honest, hard working people and deserve to be pointed out as such. In today's work environment and the way so many companies try to nickel and dime you to death, this company stands on it's commitment to good customer service at fair prices and in my book...it delivers all of that and more. Thank you Cameta Camera. I am a customer for life. I've got my eye on another camera and will be ordering from you very soon :)

Before ordering my Olympus E-520 Kit I did extensive research on the internet as to not only which DSLR would suit me but which was the best place to buy it from. Cameta Camera had the best combination of value, price and reviews. My main source for judging the vendor was this website. There were only a handful of complaints compared to hundreds of stellar reports.
There was a common thread to the complaints. They were all concerning items that were back-ordered. Thus when I ordered my kit through Amazon, which showed only 1 available, I became very nervous when the item showed up out of stock at Amazon shortly after my order. I was worried that I would end up in Back Order Hell.
It takes two days for Cameta to process orders. During that time I made a pest out of myself by calling up constantly and asking "Is the order going to ship? Are there any problems? When will it ship? When will I get it?"
The Customer Service lady on the other end was very patient and she did her best to help me. Not once did she ever act like I was a pest, even though I was. She treated me with courtesy every time I called.
Unfortunately, one of the two lenses that I ordered went on back order. I wasn't notified of this until the order shipped, and I found out later that the Customer Service lady had no way of knowing ahead of time about the back order. After three weeks of waiting for the lens to come in, they offered to substitute a better, albeit refurbished, lens to replace the one I had ordered. I jumped on that deal.
I am very happy with the service they gave me and would recommend them. I will ding them slightly for the way they told me the lens was back ordered. I would have preferred that they notify me right away about the back order, rather than having to find out by looking at the invoice of the shipped order. I realize that estimates are hard to make, but it would have been nice if they had said something like "If your lens does not come in by such and such date, we will offer the following remediation(s)..."
I expect to do more business with them, and now that I know they are on the up and up, I won't be such a pest next time...;) This review was modified by its author, ghartog, on
