Hard to believe the negative comments about Overstock.com based on my experience. I ordered two books on February 14th and received them on February 20th by USPS delivery (there was a three day holiday weekend). Great price, fast delivery and the site is easy to order from.

Purchased refurbished multifunction color laser unit. It was defective on arrival. Didn't appear to be refurbished. In my opinion, it looks to have a cursory test then repack. Unit arrived with partially depleted toner, made a grinding noise when feeding paper and printed out blank pages. The free shipping was great. Given the weight of the printer, it could have cost a ton. The exchange was not too bad. The replacement shipment was faster than the initial shipment. Overall, I am happy with the purchase. I saved $350 over the same unit in staples, including my extended warranty, which is a year longer than the OEM warranty. The refurb only had a 90 day warranty.

Ripped me off! Do NOT buy from OVERSTOCK.COM! Had replacement cell phone shipped in late October then OVERSTOCK.COM charged my VISA card FOUR (4) times in early November - one a day for four days! Despite repeated contact with customer service and assurances they would "get back within 1-2 business days", they have not gotten back to me or processed a refund. They used my VISA information to repeatedly charge me for the same single order. DO NOT BUY from these rip off artists. I'm filing a BBB complaint and processing the multiple overcharges thru the bank, but what a bunch of clowns. Don't become a victim - do not buy from OVERSTOCK.COM

Ordered a suitcase Travelpro Platinum 5 19-inch Rollaboard Luggage. The order was processed within one business day, I received a shipping notice including the tracking number, and the order arrived on time. No problems at all - would shop at overstock.com again.

I ordered from Overstock.com. They could not even provide a correct tracking number. They shipped the item via UPS Mail Innovations, which is slow. However, both UPS and USPS confirmed that the tracking number is incorrect. Overstock.com would not provide a correct tracking number. I'm supposed to have "faith" that the item will arrive. I don't even have proof that it shipped at all.

Wish I had read the reports here first but I had purchased from overstock before, but never needed to return anything.....and this is where the problems are......I received a card reader that was so poorly made a SD card did not fit into the reader without plenty of difficulty....I am now in the process of tryint to return the item......Overstock does all it can to make this impossible......they send Emails that seem to say that a rep will contact me but so far no contact.  
I tried their live chat, same thing, they are hoping I will forget about the problem.....well I will not and I will spread the word about my experience.  
As I said I did purchase from them before ,but never again.

Ordered a TomTom GPS case on 11/9; got email stating it shipped on 11/10. On 11/23 after realizing that it had been quite awhile since getting the notification of shipment. (I'd place SIX orders with other websites after this and had received them ALL.) Their online representative got on the line and told me that the package was on time and that no tracking info would be available until it was delivered, even though I could see that the product was in the USPS system IN MY CITY since 11/13. The rep advised me that this was normal and that based on their shipping information I should receive the pkg on 11/26. I was dissatisfied but said I would wait. No pkg on the 26, 27, 28, or 29 so I contacted them again. After giving the rep my name address and order number he had me hold for 2 mins after introducing himself (I had to ask him was he there). He then asked me for the VERY information I'd given him. I asked him did he NOT see that I gave all that already?! He apologized and asked me how he could help. After putting me on hold for 6 mins (with my consent this time) he came back and told me that a Supervisor was placing a track on the package. Luckily the package came the next day, which ended my dealings with Overstock.com. Never again, nor would I recommend them to anyone, regardless of price.

Ordered two Hoya 46mm filters. Had to contact customer a week later to find status of my order. Shipped two days later. Filters arrived in two separate envelopes, neither of them Hoya filters. Merchant had replaced the with cheap substitute without notification. Neither filter arrived in a filter holder. One was in a baggy... The other in a large plastic store container. Contacted customer service. They stated the items needed to be returned in good condition... I stated that the arrival condition was poor... A baggie and scratched up store container with no filter holders... No comment. Will never do business with Overstock.com again. This is my worst experience with any internet merchant.

I ordered a Samsung 22" LCD monitor on 11/26/07. The Overstock website said it was in stock. On 11/30/07, I received an email from Paypal that my purchase had been refunded. No message from Overstock as to why. When I contacted Overstock, they said the item was not in stock. I checked their website and it showed the item still in stock. Because of this I missed out on a PayPal $50 refund. At least I got my money back. I will probably no longer be doing future business with Overstock.

So far so good. I was obviously concerned after i read the reviews of Overstock.com on this sight. Problem was I had already ordered an 37" LCD tv and was at the mercy of the store. It has been 5 business days since my purchase and to my surprise I did recieve a shipping notice today with tracking number. The item was shipped on Tuesday! So now as long as I get my TV in good condition I will keep a post a positive rating and recommendation for the store. They used UPS to send it to me.  
 
Update 11/20/07  
 
I recieved the TV via UPS yesterday and everything arrived as expected. I must say I am impressed with the level of service I recieved and will continue to use Overstock.com in the future. Most of the complaints I have read had to do with returns and luckily I didn't have to worry with that.  
 
Update 12/13/07  
 
The TV I bought didn't turn on this morning. I though no problem, it has a one year warranty. When I got to work this morning. I attempted to call the manufacturer X2Gen. I have been unsuccessful so far and have since read two instances that stated they may have gone out of business the week after I bought the TV! Now we are really going to find out how good Overstock.com is. They have already agreed to send me a shipping label to return the product. It will be sent to their warranty dept for repair or refund they tell me. They are supposed to call within two business days. I have recoreded all conversations I have had with them up to this point in case it comes down to legal action. Stay tuned for updates.  
 
Final Update: I sent the TV back Friday Dec 14th. They got the TV on Friday the 21st. I called Dec. 27th to get an update. I knew with Christmas it would probably take a little longer than three days to get my refund. Not counting the weekend or christmas, it took two business days for issue. I recieved a full refund including shipping in my account yesterday. I have since purchased a LG hdtv at a local store so i don't have to worry if it goes bad again. I must say that I have been extremely impressed with the level of service I have recieved. I spoke to customer service on 4 different occasions and was extremely please with the level of service I recieved there. I would do business with again. In their call center in salt lake city utah, there were over 600 reps. It took less than a minute to get through to a person every time I called. They did everything they said they would.  
 
My advice, call their customer service dept if you have a problem at 1-800-843-2446. I did and had absolutely no problems with overstock.

I purchased a matching bed and dresser and waited patiently for 3 weeks for it to arrive.  
I was called by the shipping company to arrange a day for the order to be delivered and was very disappointed to hear that delivery would take place between 9am and 4pm! What?! Can't we narrow that down a bit?? No such luck. Naturally it arrived at 3:45.  
The driver pulled the packaging for the bed down and I carried it in the house. He then pulled the dresser down which did look very well packed but I was concerned about a good deal of damage to the box. We cut the box open to confirm that the dresser was indeed damaged. (front, top left corner crushed.) I refused delivery and went in to contact Overstock and to set up the bed I had waited so long for.  
I asked that a replacement dresser be sent. (I should have set up the bed 1st.) About a week later I was called to schedule a day for delivery. Again, 9am to 4pm. Please, can't we do something about this? I can't keep wasting my day waiting for deliveries. Well, they promised to call an hour before the driver was to arrive.  
I couldn't take any clients that day but at least I could run errands. 3:15 rolls around and still no call, so I call. "It'll be there within a few hours." What?! I was told before 4 and I have plans at 5. "I'll call the driver and see what we can do." I get a call within 20 minutes, he's 15 minutes away. I run home and he's there soon; just after 4. He pulls the dresser out to the lift and says, "Hey, I don't think you're going to want this." It had a huge hole stabbed through it as if someone had jousted it with a fork lift. Again, I refused delivery and went back into the house to contact Overstock.  
I was assured that I would be refunded promptly for the dresser and that a representative would contact me soon regarding returning the bed. (I wanted a matching set, which I've given up on and I hate the bed, but didn't want to make this into any more of a book than it already is.) It's been about 2 weeks now and neither of my 2 emails have gotten a response.  
Overstock has cost me more time and money than any high priced store could have ever managed. Do yourself a favor and stay well away.

I have had mixed experiences with Overstock.com. The mixed experience has not been with the products themselves but the fact that they use DHL for shipping. This is the WORST shipping company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Their shipping times are down right unbelievable, I can't help but wonder if they deliver using mules to carry the packages and their customer service is the only thing worse then their shipping times. It was estimated to be almost two weeks for a product to be shipped to me and then it did not arrive for yet another five days. I called DHL and they kept saying it should be there today but it never showed. Finally they tracked it down and said they would send someone out to deliver it before noon that day. It did not arrive before noon and I called and they said, "we never said that." I have had almost the same experience every time I have ordered something from overstock. It's too bad because I would use them more if they had a decent shipping company.

Ordered a featherbed from Overstock and it was "in stock". Received confirmation email and my credit card was charged.  
 
A month went by with no featherbed and no refund. I called several times and was met with many reassurances. I sent FIVE emails that went unanswered from them & then:  
 
Me: Hey! Email number 6 and still no response from you Overstock! I see the money has exited my bank account, but you still haven't shipped some of my merchandise and have not responded to my last 5 emails. Why?? Do people actually work at Overstock? Online transactions should be relatively simple - I pick something out and pay, you ship me what I purchased! I paid - I did my part - with the trust that a large company like yourselves will not keep the money AND the merchandise. If there's some normal hold up: if there's a strike, if your warehouse has been demolished by Hurricaine Wilma, you caught a nasty computer virus -- I'll understand and wait patiently! But you must COMMUNICATE with your customers. Not leave us writing increasingly LONG and  
RIDICULOUS emails that your computers assure me will be answered in 24 hours and yet never are. Now please, Overstock. Where. Is. My. Featherbed.  
 
Their response: We appreciate your business. I apologize you have not received any information regarding your order 'Baffle Box White Goose Featherbed (Queen)' which was purchased under the order number xxxxx. I apologize for not getting back to you in a timely manner with the answers to your concerns. I understand your frustration at not receiving a reply to your email until today. After further review of your account, I see that a representative has already assisted you by forwarding this issue to the concerned department and also requested them to contact you as soon as possible. I sincerely apologize for the delay in resolving this issue. Please allow 2-4 business days for them to contact you.  
 
*no one contacts me. I call & am told 'the warehouse' is actually to blame and they will contact me in 2-4 business days.*  
 
Me: It has now been 7 business days since I called and was assured that “the warehouse” would be getting back to me within 4 business days. If you delay shipment or communication on shipment any longer, I will consider my money stolen! I have now sent 8 emails.  
 
Them: Thank you for shopping with Overstock.com and for informing us that you have not received any information regarding the shipment of your 'Baffle Box White Goose Featherbed (Queen)' in regards to the order number xxxxx. Please give Overstock.com another chance to demonstrate their expertise in meeting the demands of customers in the dynamic arena of online shopping. I understand the inconvenience at having to make several contacts to take care of this issue. I apologize that we are not able to assist to you in a timely manner to resolve your situation. To provide you with the correct information required to answer your email, I have forwarded your issue to a specialized representative who has access to the information needed to answer your request.  
 
Me: Not good enough. I've already waited 4 business days and the only response I get is an IDENTICAL email to 2 others I've already received asking me to wait another 4 business days for a response? The question of whether or not you should send a customer an item they've paid for SHOULD NOT TAKE OVER A MONTH.  
 
Them: Thank you for contacting Overstock.com about your concerns. I am sorry you have had trouble with your recent order for the 'Baffle Box White Goose Featherbed (Queen)' under the order number xxxxx. I understand the inconvenience at having to make several contacts to take care of this issue. I apologize that we are not able to assist to you in a timely manner to resolve your situation.  
Since we are having a site upgrade we are facing difficulties in shipping certain items for the customers. Please be informed that we have forwarded your mail to specialized representatives and we guarantee you will be contacted via email or phone within four business days.  
 
Me: Your responses are cut and pasted and do not respond to my problem in any way. 4 business days have gone by several times now with no response. I just wanted to tell you I've reported this to the BBB and notice that I'm one of 500 people all making the same complaint about your business practices. Thanks!  
 
Them: Thank you for shopping with Overstock.com and for contacting us about your concerns. We appreciate your business. I am sorry to hear that you have not yet received your Baffle Box White Goose Featherbed under the order xxxxxx. To provide you with the correct information, I have forwarded your message to a specialized representative who has access to the information needed to answer your request. Please be advised some questions can take several days to answer as we need to contact third parties. However, we guarantee you will be contacted via email or phone within 24-48 hours....

I purchased what I was told was a new computer and a two-year protection plan. The network card failed and I called the number on the protection plan contract; overstock refered me to the manufacturer (less than one-year) who learned from my product #/serial # that the computer was actually refurbished and therefore out of warranty. I went back to overstock who then told me that the protection plan does not cover equipment used for a business.  
 
DO NOT SHOP AT OVERSTOCK.COM. It's NOT WORTH THE HASSLE and OVERSTOCK.COM IS NOT HONEST.
