I just found your web site as I was researching adding to my camera gear collection. Wish I had found it when I entered the Digital SLR market. I had the same experience as most posters with 1way photo...but this was 9/10/2007 (your order box doesn't let you go back that far) I was new to digital and in a hurry to get good gear with just a little lead time to practice before a once-in-a-lifetime trip. I had settled on a Nikon D80 kit with two lenses and what I figured was the standard accessories. Seemed like a great price advertised for the Nikon D80 "kit", priced on-line at 1-way. Unfortunately, I could find no reviews of the store at the time except the customer reviews they had posted. Without identifying it as such, they sold me a grey-market Japanese camera body. I found this out when I could not legitimately register it on-line for factory warranty in the US. Apparently that is a common piece of the "too good to be true" pricing sites. I don't think it was hot. These grey-market pieces are not on the factory's export/import to USA inventory so they won't register them. I had been talked into purchasing the the aftermarket extended warranty anyways thinking that was a good thing to have since it was "world-wide" so I felt covered at some level but have since found that has its own limitations and is not transferrable. I was upsold on much of the package, piecemealed with essentially what I've come to find, with experience, was false representations of the comparison of the kit contents vs. the upgrades like many but did not know enough at the time to smell a rat. In retrospect I realize I was really taken on the Nikon D80 rig. The worst of it was with the lenses. The "new-model" Sigma lenses that were "better by far" than the "consumer grade" Nikon lenses was probably the most egregious. I have since seen the lenses at about 1/3-1/4 the price I think that I might have paid for them. The invoice was not itemized by price so I didn't know what the actual price was for each upsold item in the modified aggregate "Special Package". The sales call I weathered was a fast and furious discussion and they were discounting the original kit price as standard items in the kit were replaced, then adding the upgraded model lenses, batteries, etc. to bring the final price to something about twice the price of the original. Usually I am more prudent but I was too much in a rush to get the stuff before my trip and thought I was getting better versatility and performance over the original kit offerings. Radar was off...the salesman was quite slick. The "deluxe" camera case, cleaning kit, full size tripod and "special" high speed memory card were basically junk...in fact, Nikon dealers typically toss in the standard Nikon bag which is pretty OK and this "deluxe" one was real trash. I stuffed it with rags and gave it to my dog to use as a chew toy. The other stuff went to Goodwill. The special high-performance SD card was not really. Some off-brand name at "standard" speed/performance. The filters they sold me were claimed as super quality but not really. I must say, however the stuff came right on time but I suspect it was because, rube that I was, I upped the ante so much with all the upsell "upgrades" and they didn't want to lose the hooked fish. But man I was hosed and had no time before my trip to deal with the situation. My once-in-a-lifetime trip photos were marginal at best. A lot of the telephoto shots were wasted because the upsold lens did not have Vibration Reduction. I have since added to my equipment but from my local camera dealer. The "better by far" upgrade lenses from 1-way shot side by side with more standard Nikon D80 kit VR lenses do not do well in comparison, and that is with me having much more experience with the gear. Wish I had found a review of this grey-market rip-off business and stuff at the time when I was doing my research. The main camera mechanics do work OK but for the "upgrades" I would have WAY better performance gear from any legitimate dealer. I've since found out how the digital camera market works and have a permanent case of buyer's remorse from this outfit per the terms of my deal. This was a very expensive education for me that didn't have to be except for predatory business practices of 1-way. STAY AWAY from this business. Don't let them give you the business like they did to me. Just for grins, I checked their web site 5/9/2009 and it seems to be "Under Construction" If they are out of business, so much the better. Good riddance.

These people are out of business. They sell you the camera (for an ok price, admittedly, but not great). Then they take the money and vanish. The company they sold the extended warranty through "RepairTech" is also out of business after taking $250 of my money for a clearly-useless-now 3 year warranty. I've always been told that extended warranties are a scam. Now I know for sure.

I did not end up ordering from 1 Way - I managed to cancel the order I placed when my gut told me something was not quite right. This site reaffirmed my suspicions.

I placed an order online on the 1/26/09 for a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H50 Digital Camera. The next day I received email and voicemail from "Adam" telling me that I need to contact 1 Way "to provide a verbal confirmation so that we can ship out your order". So far so good - I liked the fact they that were verifying my identity.

I tried to contact Adam several times, was placed on hold for unacceptably long periods and finally reached him. At this point, things started going downhill. Instead on just finalizing my order, he stated asking me if I wanted to buy different accessories: I was told I really needed the battery because the battery that came with the unit was basically a one-time charge and could not be reused or recharged without a stand alone charger. I was told I needed a high-speed memory card because the one they came with it was lousy. I politely declined because I had these items only to be told that I really needed this stuff because it was just going to cost me more someplace else. When I wouldn't buy accessories, the sales pitch changed to acquiring an extended warranty. I politely declined this as well only to be told that this was a "import unit" and that all the menus and the manual would be in Japanese. When I challenged him on how was an extended warranty going to fix the language issue, he changed sales tactics again and began to try to sell me something else.

At this point, I decided to balk and told him to just cancel my order. He turned the hard sell on again and this time offered me the USA version of the DSC-H50 with all the items (and then some) he had been trying to sell my for about $50 more than I was planning to originally pay. This seemed like a good deal at that moment and I agreed. What can I say, Adam was a good salesman and very convincing.

He went through and began totaling up the order and quickly told me that a 7% shipping insurance fee was be added to the order. I asked him what that was all about and I was told that it was NY State Law and added to all orders. I thought this was odd but agreed to it as NY frequently does things differently.

After I hung up, the whole experienced began to bother me and after a Google search on this mysterious shipping tax, I called back to challenge Adam as this tax was not listed on my original internet order receipt. He said that charge was for 3rd party insurance and that all orders had this tacked on. I told him I resented having to pay for insurance on top of what I was already paying with UPS shipping and he agreed to remove the charge if it would prevent me from canceling the order after I threatened to do just that.

I thought that I would be happy about this deal but something kept bugging me. After running an errand and mulling over my poor experience with 1 Way, I decided to check the internet for company reviews and came to this site. I was shocked to find that their lifetime rating was less than 1 of 10! I immediately called their customer service department and was able to cancel the order before it shipped and avoid having to pay their outrageous 20% restocking fee for refusing a delivery.

Overall, my experience was pretty bad although I lucked out and avoided paying any kind of financial penalty. I usually buy from the internet so I can avoid pushy sales people so this experience was very unpleasant. I would not even consider using them in the future and would tell perspective buyers "Caveat emptor!"

I had ordered products from this company and ended up in a long legal battle with the help of my credit card company who reimbursed the money. I forwarded my case to the New York Attorney Generals office. Yes they are in New York. I won my dispute and the attorney general agreed to look into it but as with anything the more people who raise concerns the more they will listen. I implore all of you who have had dealings with these people to copy all your documentation and e-mail it to the New York State Attorney Generals office. Even if you have not lost any money it will help those who have been defrauded.

I just got off the phone with this company and asked them if they had a retail store. They said they were located in Massachusetts. I asked the sales rep why they had a Brooklyn address and he said that their warehouse is located there, but they are actually in MA. I asked why the camcorder I was interested in was so cheap ($230 lower in price than Amazon) and they said it's because they don't have a retail store. I got an uneasy feeling and decided to check them out and found this website. Thank goodness. Stay clear of these people. They are extremely shady.

The guy got very defensive when I asked him if he could give me any credentials or verify that they were a legitimate business. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!

I can't believe a company can get away with this! Like exactly what I am reading on this site, the same thing happened to me! I felt wrong when I questioned that the camera DOESN'T come with a battery and charger (?), and the rep said, 'That's what I'm telling you.' My then $400 order instantly became $749 and I cancelled my order. He all but hung up on me! Then, going back to the website, I noticed that the camera DOES come with battery and charger. I called back and asked for a manager. I explained that the website is different than the call, and then he proceeded to tell me that the battery and AC power (not a charger) only comes with the BODY ONLY (no lenses) and then when a package is added, it is not included. However, the battery is only "one use" and the power supply just keeps the camera on. I thanked him for the clarification and then hung up. Upon going back to the website, I realized their website does include battery and power supply, as I was misled AGAIN by a "manager" and then I found this site. OMG, I am so glad I didn't purchase anything! I cannot believe they still run a business.

I ordered, had the same scam call and they try to upsell you everything. I said no, I just want the camera. They said o.k. fine, and that's it. No camera, no return emails when I keep asking if it's shipped yet, and no charge on my charge card... Not sure what to do!

I called and ordered the Cannon EOS 50D which I was told was in stock 2 weeks ago under order #65407-WO then got the email that it was out of stock and I would need to reorder. Well now its $140 more and they're in stock (not). I get the standard line that the import model is in Japanesee only-not according to Cannon- check page 42 of the manual, also their site lists the contents of what comes with the import model which is battery, AC power supply, usb cable, video cable, manual, etc. Long story made short they take my credit card number for the camera and express shipping but guess what next day I get the email again that the camera is 3-4 weeks back ordered when only yesterday they had plenty in stock.
I can order for more money the US model so beware this seller.
Seller still says camera on back order even thought it is advertised on their site as in stock.
I tried ordering the EOS 50D body only from another site shopdigitaldirect.com and I was told that this camera comes with no software, no battery, no firmware, no charger, etc. and is shipped this way from Canon. I can not believe that any manufacturer would package a product in this manner.Shop digital direct claims to be an authorized canon reseller and will charge a 20% fee to cancel the order for the above item. Well I didn't add anything just told them to ship me the camera with 3 day express shipping. Still waiting; are there any trustworthy sellers out there.

So I ordered the Panasonic HVX-205a - a P2 capable DVCProHD Camcorder. For 1,399. The cheapest price online!

They hadn't charged me by the next day so I called them. After a while, the same man kept transferring me to himself over and over again and then finally went over the order. He told me the camera didn't come with a charger, battery, viewfinder or LCD screen - it was a barebones body!

LOL. He placed the order anyway, at nearly three thousand dollars.

I called the bank and cancelled the card. I tried to call them back, but I got a message saying they were closed for the day. I told the bank not to let them charge my card.

If they attempt anything, I'm taking a train out to Brooklyn with ten of my toughest friends and we're gonna mess some people up.

I did not actually complete my order and was able to successfully cancel, thanks to finding these reviews in time. If you've had a noteworthy experience, please take the time to share some comments. It might be immensely helpful to someone else. Like many others you'll read about, my experience started with placing an online order for what I thought was the sweetest deal on the web for a D90 and two Nikkor lenses. Next day I got email stating they had received my order but required that I call them, for security reasons, to confirm. I called and reached a receptionist type person who verified my order info then put me on hold. Then I spoke with Jason who seemed a very knowledgeable guy, but proceeded to point out various shortcomings of the package I'd purchased: short life battery, need for a separate charger, bigger-faster SD card, etc. By the time he was finished the bargain I'd found had ballooned to a total almost twice the original price. I expressed some hesitation. Jason put me on hold to speak with his manager about a deeper discount. Something just didn't feel right at that point and I disconnected. A few hours later I found this site and these reviews, which was enough for me. I got a follow-up email and a call from Jason stating I would be very surprised at the price he could give me. I responded to the email expressing my wish to cancel the order completely. I shared my perception that I was being misled; that what I was ordering did not appear to be the equipment and accessories as originally packaged by the manufacturer. I also linked to this site. I added that I had already contacted AMEX about their dispute procedures and that if they billed my card I would dispute. Though the website states all cancellations must occur by phone (giving them one more shot at a sale), next day I received email stating my order was canceled with apologies for the inconvenience. I think I dodged a bullet. Hope this helps someone else.

Unbelieveable! That's the only word for this company. Unfortunately, I, like many others did not read these reviews before placing my order on line back on the 29th. I was lured in by what seemed like the best prices and inventory on the web. I ordered a Canon 50D w/the Advanced Pkg. When I checked my email for the confirmation of the order, I saw that I needed to call an 800 to "verbally confirm the order". When I got the salesman on the phone, one of his 1st questions was if I had a battery and charger since the camera didn't come with one, which I thought was a little strange for a new camera package. Fortunately, I had ordered one from another merchant for what I thought would be a backup. He then asked why I had ordered the "Japanese model", which he said would prove real difficult for me since the camera's promps, all of the manuals, literature, everything would be in Japanese. He said that for only $320. more he could upgrade mee to a much better U.S. package with better quality lenses, a high speed flash card rather than the one it came with that would take 10 - 15 sec.s between shots. He could also include better lenses since the ones that the "Advanced Pkg." came with was 10 yr. old technology. I told him I was happy with what I had ordered and that a $320. difference was too much. So, he said hang on a sec. When he came back, he said he could give me the "upgrade with all of the benefits for an add'l $220". I said okay to what sounded like a considerably better package. A few hours later a checked my emails and still did not see a confirmation, so I called back again. They said no problem, they'd send it right over. A short while later, sure enough, here was the confirmation, but there were a few discrepancies from what I was told. Now, the lenses were no longer Canon IS models, but were high speed autofocus lenses for Canon. The $100. that was taken off the package price, now showed up at the bottom as "insurance". After the big deal he made about the U.S. verses Japanese camera, I was concerned that this invoice did not identify the camera as USA. I then called back a 3rd time to ask about the discrepancies. He said absolutely it was a U.S. camera. The lenses are the "new digital technology lenses which are 1/2 the weight and are image stabilized by their very nature". He went on to say that "these lenses each sell for $599., so I was getting a great deal". He then told me that "the $100. insurance cost is the 5% that is required by the state of NY". If I wanted to question it, maybe he could still cancel the order even though it had already shipped. He could ask UPS to return it. I said if it already had shipped, what was the airbill number? He said that would be in my mailbox in the morning since they send those through at the end of each night. I told him I'd look for it in the morning, and that if it had not shipped, I'd go ahead and cancel. All I can say is that I've never heard so many lies and distortions from one company or salesman. Even the excitement of getting a new camera doesn't outweigh the feeling that I've been sold nothing more than a bunch of B.S.

I ordered the Nikon D90 kit and also the 70-300mm lense on 12/29 that stated delivery was available before the New Year. I rec'd an email about 30 minutes after the order was placed asking me to call a 800 number to confirm the order. The call was basically to sell me items for the camera which normally are part of the package. I was also asked to purchase additional accessories. I declined on all. I then rec'd an email on 12/30 stating that my item was no longer in stock and that the wait was 3-4 weeks and they had refunded my money. Their business practice is basically if you don't buy the items to increase the cost, they cancel your order. Also, the review on the site I was driven to has their rating as 5-star. I emailed them and asked them to do more research on their ratings. Just read all of the complaints and you will see that the ratings are inaccurate.

Ordered a Nikon D 90, mthen they told me the price was only good for a Japanese version, then insisting on delivering the goods as ordered they lied to me that items were in stock, but got an e-mail next day that delivery would be delayed for 3-4 weeks because items out of stock (website still lists it as in stock). After telling them I would involve regulatory bodies and take legal actions if the goods would not arrive soon as promised and exactly as ordered, the company cancelled the order without any reason. To which I happily agreed.
DON"T BUY FROM THEM, it's all fake!!!

Terrible experience. I placed an internet order from this company for a Nikon D60 "silver package" (camera, lens, tripod, case, etc.) for $399, the lowest price I could find. No problems with the order and I get a customary confirmation email confirming all the details. I was suprised when 2 days later this company telephoned me to "confirm" the order. First, the call spoiled the christmas surprise for my wife as she answered and said "the camera company is calling". The caller (unidentified except that they were from 1 Way Photo)said they wanted to confirm my order and "go over order details". Heads up. After reviewing the package the caller said that he noticed I didnt get the lens protector ($29 extra), even though part of the silver package is a lens protector kit. I declined. He said that if I got a scratch on the lens that it would void the warranty. Again I politely declined but was starting to get the gist of this call. Next the caller said I should get the rechargeable battery kit. I told him I thought the unit comes with rechargeable batteries and charger (which all the Nikons do). He said they were "one-time" use and disposable. After hearing enough, I said I wanted to cancel my order because of the sales tactics this company is using. The caller immediately tried to pressure continuing the sale and I hen was angered to, sorry to say, the point of profanity. Having no further resolution, I hung up and noticed that 1-Way immediately sent me a cancellation notice. I then did a search on 1-Way and discoverd this and other websites registring complaints against the company. I notice other reviews have reported this same exact up-sale scheme so this routine is probably a written program for these scam artists.I am going to register this complaint with the NY Attorney General's office and also the BBB. I encourage others to do the same if they have been baited or poorly treated in order to hopefully put an end to this company's practices. Thank you.

Like many others I should have checked here before dealing with 1wayphoto. I ordered by phone and got the shmoosy switch. The $399 Canon XSi with lens grew to $899. The "one-time" battery needed to be upgraded for $200 and an extended warranty, case and UV filter were added by fast-talking Richard to make "the sweetest/best deal" to be found. After I contacted them 3 times to get a confirmation, I became suspicious and found the reviews on this site. Within 48 hours of ordering I called to cancel the order and was told it had been shipped less than 24 hours after I placed the order. The confirmation they finally sent gave "discounted camera package - $899" without giving the prices for the other items. Unfortunately, I was not home when the package was delivered by UPS and could not refuse it. I debated about opening the package, and I did a few days later. All the listed items were included. The camera box was unsealed and the camera was USED! The LCD WAS UNPROTECTED AND SCRATCHED. I have filed a dispute with AmEx for the purchase. AmEx has stopped payment to 1wayphoto. I'm keeping the box here until I receive return service labeling. This incident was a nasty reminder that cheap is cheap. STEER CLEAR. In the future I'll be sure to check this site for info about vendors from Brooklyn.
