I will never buy from Office Depot again. I would also try my best to convince our office manager to switch to Staples. Here is what happened:
I ordered a desk on 11Nov07.
On 13Nov07, the website said it has been delivered and no signature requested. Of course it was not delivered.
I called customer service and was told someone was going to call me the next day. Someone from the "resolution department" called the next day and said it would be delivered that day. Of course it did not happen.
I called again, and was told all they can do is to write an email to the resolution department. The resolution department called back, basically saying they are clueless and was researching. Of course that research never yielded any result.
I called again and requested to speak to a supervisor. Of course no supervisor was available. And all they can do is to write an email to the resolution department.
This is the worst online shopping experience ever.

very bad customer service... i ordered a laptop, it didnt arrive on the estimated date, i called Customer service(CS). He told me that the item is no more in inventory. I checked on the website at the same time showing me 'in stock'. The CS supervisor told me that may be case of availability in different state's inventory. and he doesnt have the authority to ship it to me from different state.. i am never gonna buy from OD

This started out as a negative review but after talking to a customer service Manager, Marlon Dawkins, I've chaged the review to excellent. He politely, professionally resolved my complaint. I appreciate a company that employs people that are customer service oriented. Thanks again. Mr Dawkins. This review was modified by its author, Jazzpicker308, on

I buy all my office supplies from them online. They have very fast shipping and great prices. The key is to use online coupons for free shipping and discounts. I can get at least 25% off of my order every time. :-) What was a regular priced item is now a steal!

I ordered a TI-89 calculator from office depot. I have it shipped to my college dorm, but after 2 weeks I still don't have it. I checked online and called and apparently they said it was delivered and signed by a person named Wendy. I have no idea who Wendy is and asked around. I called and they said there was no stock and that there is a very good chance that they never shipped out the TI-89 calculator and only shipped out the gift. If this has a chance of being true, that means Office Depot WILL just have things in stock and never notify you if it goes out of stock. I've been waiting 2 weeks for a calculator for a Calc 2 test and now I don't have a calculator. Needless to say, I am extremely mad because I wasn't kept up to date.

Awesome customer service!!! This time it was a laptop but I'm not talking about a one time, got lucky story. Whenever I bought something from OfficeDepot and had some problems due to manufacturer or supplier, OfficeDepot took full responsibility and solved my problem. Giving so much value to customer satisfaction plainly shows me how BIG this company is. They really mean business, a continued business with full satisfaction guaranteed everytime.

Terrible 800 customer service call center in the Phillipines. I was literally lied to and hung up on 4 times. I tried to complain to the corporate office and I talked to Marlon at the Office of the Chairman. Marlon did'nt really care and he was just going through the motions. I requested a call back from someone who would be addressing my issues and he said that was not going to happen. I am also struggling to get my rebate that they are putting forth their best effort to not pay. +This part of my post is an edit:: If you look at the post above mine it is obviously a retort post from Office Depot Corporate trying to counter this post. Office Depot this really shows your desperation. No wonder the stock has dropped half of its value in 4 months. Truly pathetic. This review was modified by its author, thisiswitty, on

This is, by far, the worst vendor I have ever dealt with. Keep in mind, I understand global competition as I lost my job to Mexico (computer programmer). Office Depot has outsourced their call centers to the Phillipines and El Salvador, neither of which have many people that can actually speak Engrish and fewer still that can think beyond the scripts they've been given. I ordered a Gateway Laptop I found on TechBargains on 7/16 and the website let me order it. The problem started when the web site showed Free Next Day delivery. The order actually showed 3 day deliver. Whatever. 3 days is fine. 3 days goes by, no laptop, no shipping information. Call El Salvador and they tell me that they'll replace it because that laptop is discontinued (even though they sold it on their website). They promise I'll have it on 7/24. 7/24 comes around and I check the web site for a status. No tracking information. I call Customer Service and get the Phillipines "Jen". She tells me that package is being shipped by "MobileCast" and that it will arrive today. I ask her who this mysterious company "MobileCast" is as I have never heard of it and perhaps this is a new, better company. She provides me with a telephone number (1-800-262-7250). This turns out to be the Office Depot Operations Center... not "MobileCast". Great. Thanks "Jen". After a couple more calls and speaking to a couple of people located in the United States, I'm told the item is "at the cross dock" as of 7/22 and will be shipped "soon". They promise to call me and let me know the status of the order.
I would not recommend this company to my enemies or competition. Their business practices, customer service and inventory system are worst in class. Obviously there are some that have had success with this company, but buyer beware. I have done one transaction with this company and it has been horrible.

I have been a frequent on-line shopper at officedepot and I have had no problem. The problem started when I placed my order by phone with a pickup at store option. The matter is that I wanted them to match the price from bestbuy and to apply an additional discount coupon (Maxell cd-r 50 pack dropped from original $18.99 down to $4.00 + tax). Customer service representative on the phone was very helpful and confirmed my order for pickup at the nearest store. However, sales folks in the store did not understand the price and were obviously unhappy to sell cd-r four times cheaper than in store. They required me to explain the price once again. They wanted me to show them printed coupons for the discount (???).I can't drive back an forth to satisfy their paperwork needs. What is the difference!!?. If I had placed the order for delivery it would have been absolutely fine. I just wanted to get it earlier. From my understanding, officedepot on-line and officedepot stores function separately with a very poor coordination between them. Also, their price match policy appears easier to declare than to fulfill. Overall, I am very disappointed with officedepot. They offer attractive prices, coupons and discounts but sometimes have problems to honor them.

This is the second time I've ordered furniture from these people, and both times, the item has arrived the next day, as advertised. They're definitely a good source for decent-quality inexpensive office furniture.

I have had no problems with retail purchases from Home Depot. However their third-party delivery service is abysmal for residential customers. I had to order the same item twice and was never able to arrange delivery which is only available during normal working hours. The delivery window as 8:30 am to 5:00 and no call ahead service is offered to allow for meeting them at my residence. Two attempts to deliver were made for each order. Despite leaving specific instructions to leave the package or contact me they did neither. Nor did they leave any notice of delivery attempts. Office Depot did not resolve the issue either even though I sent several emails and called customer service.

What an excellent company! I live about 34 miles away from the nearest OfficeDepot so I usually like to order online... Almost everything I buy ships in 3 days or less! Sometimes it even arrives NEXT-DAY! Excellent... VERY SATISFIED

It deeply saddens me what has happened to the quality of Office Depot. This was by and far my most trusted and favored online vendor for office supplies and equipment for all of our companies. Per year we averaged around $8000.00+ in general office supplies purchased from Office Depot, most of it online.
Over the past 6 months there has been a noticeable and terrible drop in quality of shipped orders and customer service. We have recieved orders in the past (1998 - 2006) that were incorrectly boxed, but the customer service immediately took care of the situation and replaced the product within a day and we were very satisfied. But unfortunately from around October 2006 to present day, our online orders have been arriving in "miserable" condition. Hasty packaging at the Carol Stream, IL warehouse has led to many of our products (Files folders, Ink Cartridges, Toner, Fax Machines) to arrive in almost unuseable condition. Packing HP Ink Cartridges in a grey "plastic bag" instead of a small cardboard box is absolutely not a good idea. But this has become the norm lately.
The worst though is the current customer service department at 1-800-GO-DEPOT. I would bet my life savings that this is an outsourced call center in India or some other country. Almost 90% of the persons that I have talked to since October 2006 have been almost unbearable. Thick and very heavy accents that are impossible to understand at times. What is worse is that they seem to have very little regard to "FIXING" the problem at hand. Their main goal it seems is to get the person off the line as fast as possible and move onto the next. On my last order I had requested a replacement Brother MFC-7220 fax machine, due to the first one arriving completely mangled, and was completely blown off by the operator. I called back 3 days later only to be told a "credit" was given but another fax machine was not sent. After requesting a manager (2 times), I was placed on hold twice for over 28 minutes until the phone system reset both times. I am very very upset with Office Depot and unfortunately they have lost our accounts and good customers to boot. Never again.
- Updated 03/23/2007 -
A pleasant and welcomed turnaround occurred today after recieving a call from the division managers and higher-ups which had taken our concerns seriously and are working to rectify the troubles in the warehouses and (outsourced) customer service centers. I was given a direct contact here in the US in which all problems could be resolved for our company. These steps have definately lowered my anger towards Office Depot and I sincerely hope things will change for the better in future orders. This review was modified by its author, missouricrane, on

Order a 19" monitor via officedepot.com and after 10 days of waiting, the status still showed 3 day delivery pending. After email the customer service about the order, they said they don't have it in inventory and canceled my order!
What a porr service! I guess next store closure will be Office Depot and Sears.
