I purchased an IBuyPower PC from Circuit City as an in store purchase, using the specification sheet that was given to me in the store. This was my only buying guide for making this purchase. I did not know that it was on the internet as I later found out, nor could I have know because I bought it at or while in the store in Richmond Virginia.

My issue it not so much with Circuit City but with IBuyPower, the people at Circuit City were very kind and helpful but this was not the case with IBuyPower.

I purchased an IBuyPower PC model GMR GAMER901EX when it arrived it was a Gigabyte GA-EG31M-S2. It was billed as a gaming PC however it is abolutely is not a gamer.
The MB is a micro board with only two slots for RAM.
The heat sink for the CPU is not made for this case.
The Case is made out of sheet metal, I am sure of this because it sliced right into my right thumb making for a bloody mess.

I received the speck sheet from the store where it stated the unit had a 400 watt power supply, it did not.
I received a speck sheet from the store saying its OS was Vista 64 bit, it is not.
The front I/O audio plug does not work
I can not play Half Life 2 on this PC
It does not have enough power to run a decent video card nor any six pin plugs. This power supply of unknown origin and I am told that it will most likely not support a better video card and to be certain not able to handle other add on like PCI cards, or extra hard drives. I did try to confirm this statement with IBuyPower but they would not reply to my questions.
I spoke with the tech support people at ATI. I asked how many watts were needed to run an ATI Radeon™ HD 4800 Series video card and they said the PC needed at least a 450 watt power supply. IbuyPower does not state on their web site the out put of there Standard Case Power Supply. If you buy one from Circuit City you have to go into the store to find the advance specification sheets, but on the other hand they aren't correct either.

When I called IBuyPower to ask a few questions, like how do I get into the BIOs, I was not allowed to speak to their primary support team. I was told that only one person troubles shots for Circuit City's PC issues. After being on hold for some time I finally got through to this tech suppor person. I told this tech support guy that the PC didn't live up to it's specifications, his reply was, they didn't recognized the specifications unless they listed them on the web site I am wondering now what web site. He refused to commiserate with any part of my disatisfactiion. His total lack of caring caused me to then expressed with more vigor why I needed to have these specification met, he again said there were no such specification, ironically, while I was holding them in my hand. Then I asked about the power supply being out of specification, he again totally repudiated my claim. I was only reading my Circuit City Specification Sheet when I bought this thing, I didn't even know about a web site, I bought it in the store and they shipped it to me. I then told him about how the case was so poorly made that the sheet metal had sliced the heck out of my thumb, not being belligerent in any regard, but to only convince him that I was not lying about anything. He then put me on hold, then after about a 45 minutes on hold, maybe longer an IBuyPower operator came on the line and ask if he could help me. When I said that nasty word, Circuit City I was told that only Mike handles Circus City PCs and that he was in a meeting at that time, and that he would not be out for at least an hour longer. I assume he didn't know this Mike guy had put me on hold over a half hour earlier.

Then there is the trouble I will have in returning this thing is also a major disadvantage too.

The CPU is a good one but we already know that
The RAM is made by Kingston and that is good value RAM
The Micro ATX motherboard is OK but dated
The only software that came with this PC is the OS Vista 32 bit, I had expected to see MS Works, as this is a nice office PC. Thank god for Open Office a free word processor that is similar to MS Word.

That said it is an excellent PC for anything other then gaming, but if you use a several applications at once like I do you need to have the option for more RAM and Vista 64 bit OS and that is what a Dual Core CPU is made for.
I like the PCs at IBuyPower assembled in China, but this one has just cut me too deeply, and wounded so that I can not buy another from them nor directly through Circuit City. I think I may just build another one from scratch so I don't have to deal with this stuff ever again, and I will not need to have a specification sheet other then the one in my head.

I am sorry Circuit City has made such a mistake in buying from these people, it seems like they may have defrauded them in some way but I am not sure of it.

Man that was too long of a review but I am not cutting a thing.

Update on 8/14. I was supposed to receive a call on 8/12 from the asst manager. he never called. I called today and spoke with another asst manager who said he would check on it and get right back to me today. He didn't.

I justy don't understand how they can blow me off like this.

I brought my computer in for repair to Circuit City (Valley Forge Store 711 400 West Swedesford Road, Berwyn, PA 19312) on June 27, 2008.
I had purchased a Circuit City extended warranty with my HP m8020n computer.

It is now August 11th and I still do not have my computer - nor does anyone know when it will be fixed.

And, I do not trust anyone at the Firedog desk to tell me the truth.

I was loathe to bring the computer in - and seriously considered just buying another one - because of the lies and extremely poor service I received the LAST time I brought it in.

On that occasion, I was flat-out lied to for a solid week, and then given back my still-unrepaired computer. One phone call to HP had a recovery disk sent to me and the computer worked fine for the next 11 months.

I sent TWO letters to Circuit City corporate headquarters:

Customer Service
Circuit City, Inc.
9954 Mayland Drive
Richmond, VA 23233

And neither of them were ever answered or acknowledged.

I would seriously warn anyone considering a purchase of any product at Circuit City to think about shopping elsewhere.

I recently wrote a review telling about my horrible experince with this purchase. Not on this site, but another one. Circuit City must have read the review because shortly after I've been called by a few different store managers and their corporate office. They went above and beyond to make me feel better about what has happened to me at their store. Yeah, bad things will happen sometimes. But I do appreciate the gesture and them not blowing me off as a lost customer. While I'm a bit uneasy to use their firedog service anytime soon, I have no problem remaining a customer to Circuit City.

Two Thumbs up for taking time to care. And a thanks from me for doing so.

CIRCUIT CITY’S “FIREDOG” SERVICE: DEN OF THIEVES

Several years ago, I had components for a home A/V system installed by Circuit City. Circuit City subsequently spun off its service division into a separate entity called Firedog. So, because I’d felt satisfied by Circuit City’s service in the past, I chose Firedog to handle two minor adjustments to the set-up. After reviewing Firedog’s offerings on line, on 6/6/08 I called Firedog to purchase the simplest option, called CONNECT3. But when confronted with my request, the salesman said that I should purchase the more expensive BASIC service instead. His stated reasons constituted gobbledygook to my ears, and when I politely asked him to please repeat himself, he did -- but with no more clarity than before.

Years ago, before the Giuliani administration cleaned up the Times Square district here in New York (where I live), the neighborhood was infested with what some Manhattanites called gun-in-your-back electronics stores. Independently owned and operated, they specializing in over-priced, “gray market” merchandise (much openly labeled “NOT FOR SALE IN THE U.S.A.”), and the shops were staffed by greasy-haired salesman with shifty eyes reminiscent of two olives rolling around on a plate. Highly manipulative and exquisitely skilled at playing upon customers’ emotional vulnerability, these fast-talking ne’er-do-wells had a well-deserved reputation for being a pox on the city. Strangely, though my Firedog salesman represented a reputable, national chain, everything about his demeanor screamed that I was dealing with the sleazy, gun-in-your-back type of salesman. But against my better judgment, I allowed the guy to sell me the BASIC service. The pounding breathlessness with which he processed my credit card information and swiftly terminated the call was reminiscent of the hurried footsteps of a mugger, running away with my wallet.

Two Firedog servicemen duly presented themselves at my apartment and performed the requested service -- which wound up being nothing more than turning a few switches on my already-installed equipment and explaining what to do if problems arose again. Ten minutes later, as I signed the contract acknowledging its completion, I remarked aloud that it seemed to me that CONNECT3 would have been the appropriate service package for my needs and that I felt I had been tricked into buying BASIC instead.

“Oh,” one of the men declared, “customers complain about those Firedog salesmen ALL THE TIME.”

Furious with anger, the next day I called Firedog to complain about what had been done, and the salesman openly admitted that my observation was correct. He explained that the sales staff works under strict instructions from management to try to over-sell services, and staff is even limited to exact language that is allowed with customers. Repeated entreaties to management for permission NOT to have to treat customers with such aggression had been to no avail.

In any event, he could not make an adjustment to my purchase. Instead, that had to be done by a Massachusetts-based office, where the phone number -- 800-347-3364 -- was handled by representatives devoted exclusively to Firedog services sold over the phone (as opposed to in-store or on line). It took numerous phone calls -- and long waiting periods on “hold” -- to get anyone to take action on my behalf. But eventually a conference call was set up with someone working under R.M., who is the operations manager for New York. The man queried me about exactly what the technicians had done. He then agreed that CONNECT3 -- not BASIC -- was indeed the service package that I should have been sold.

The prescribed remedy was for me to buy a CONNECT3 package (costing $155.99 including tax), and I was promised that I would then be credited the full price of the BASIC package (which had cost me $187.19 including tax). A credit subsequently did appear on my credit card statement, on 6/12/08 -- but for only $20.80.

Erroneously thinking it would be a simple matter to correct the problem, I didn’t keep track of all my subsequent calls to the Firedog office in Massachusetts. But conversations with at least a dozen customer service reps and repeated empty promises of follow-up finally led me to realize that I’d better start documenting everything -- so I’d have solid evidence of misconduct to present in Small Claims Court, which is where I inevitably seemed to be heading.

Interestingly, after each customer service rep read through the files that had been created for each of my service orders, there was NEVER any disagreement about the issue: Firedog owed me $166.39. But returning my money to me could not be done without approval from someone else -- who would NEVER grant it.

The last customer service rep I dealt with was R.S., an “elite agent” on Firedog’s so-called “G. O. Team,” whose three e-mails to Field Service Managers J.B. and M.L. never received responses. Finally I asked R.S. if I might be granted PART of the money owed to me, and he said “yes.” At his request to Circuit City’s corporate office in Virginia, a credit of $155.99 was finally issued on 7/29/08.

It is UNCONTESTED that Circuit City’s Firedog is holding on to $10.40 of my money against my will, but I assume that management figures -- correctly -- that I do not consider that amount worth pursuing in Small Claims Court. Management can pat itself on the pack with pride over the success of its theft, but Firedog’s ill-gotten gain surely was offset several times over by the salaries paid to employees who had to deal with me.

In the end, of course, EVERYONE loses in this case.

If any Circuit City or Firedog employee who reads this posting has access to his/her employer’s computer records, the accuracy of my account can be verified by looking up my orders and reading their accompanying customer service rep notes. The Order Numbers are 4488-797017 and 4478-807138.

I ordered a tracfone on a sunday from their website which was on sale for $40 which was $10 less than everywhere else I looked. I selected free shipping, package was shipped on a monday USPS and delivered on wednesday. I think the reason it arrived so soon is because it shipped from a warehouse only about 175 miles from my house. I'm happy I got it so fast especially since they estimated I wouldn't get it for over a week.

I ordered a Panasonic DMC FZ18 camera on July 7, on my order confirmation is says Order Number: Pending. It also states that I will not be charged until items ship. Well, I canceled the order on July 23 due to the item still being on backorder. I was then told that my credit card would be credited. I keep a very close eye on my credit card accounts and nothing had been charged on it as of yet. I emailed Circuit City questioning the credit due to the fact that nothing had shipped yet. They told me they automatically charge the card when the order is placed. On July 28, I checked my account and to my suprise the amount was charged to my account on July 23. (This was not on there on July 25 when I checked my account) I was told I was credited the amount on July 24. It's not on there yet, hopefully it is soon but what gives? I don't appreciate being lied to. Several times I was told that it would not be charged until it shipped. This is something small but I won't forget. I will never shop at Circuit City again. They must feel they are above honesty.

I had a similar experience to dotNet07. I bought an HDTV from Circuit City also using the 8% coupon. The purchase went smoothly, but when CC lowered the price and I went in for a price adjustment is when I became dissatisfied.

The employee said the coupon was a one-time use and couldn't be used again. I got a new coupon and went back, but this time they said they can't apply it to price adjustments. I asked about returning it and purchasing it again with the lower price and coupon, to which they said that would be fine. In the end I was handed a receipt that said "Price Adjustment" and was credited back the difference...meaning they didn't need to do a return/repurchase and they didn't scan/enter the coupon. I was very annoyed that they were just making up excuses not to do a price adjustment. VERY poor customer service. I will likely not buy from CC again.

I ordered an AC on a Thursday. The next day, I received a delivery from FedEx. I was very impressed. But when I opened the packaging, I found a freezer! I mean come on! It was not even a different AC model, just completely a different thing! How they can make such a mistake?
Anyways, I contacted them right away, explained what happened, and they told me a "case manager" will contact me very soon to resolve the issue. 14 days has passed, no "case manager" has contacted me. Every time I call circuit city, they tell me I have to wait until that mystery person, who I seriously doubt his/her existence, contacts me. They will not ship what I have ordered, or give me a refund, until that mystery person picks up the wrong item they have sent me. I have to sit in my hot room and sweat and stare at that big ugly freezer which occupies too much space.
I am going to stay away from circuit city now. Even if they promise to send me a free HDTV, I won’t accept. Because they might send me an elephant instead, and in my room right now there is only enough space for me and that ugly freezer.

I bought a camera (canon Xsi) on June 3rd, for $854.99, and I used my 8% off coupon to lower it to $786.59. On June 19th, CircuitCity lowered the camera price to $799.99, so I went there to do a price adjustment, which should bring the price down to $799.99*0.92=735.99, but they asked me to bring a valid coupon back, so I printed out my coupon and went back there. but this time the store manager refused to adjust the price with my coupon. The policy didn't say that a customer can't price match with a coupon. This is a very bad experience. The economy is very bad and they still treat customer like this.

I wanted to share a very disappointing experience I had today at my local Circuit City.
I own a small computer consulting business and sometimes have to purchase items locally. Yesterday I purchased some Kingston memory online using the web ordering system and picked up my items this morning Order ID 4417-3609141 and I was actually quite happy with the service.
So as a happy customer I returned to the website again to purchase some more memory. I went the website and found what I was looking for and was happy to see that the price was good. KGT KVR4001GR I started to order it and picked my local store again for pickup. I then decided that because my pervious customer had paid me cash that I would just go to the store and pay cash for it.
So I went the the store and I discovered that the price in the store was $99 instead of $44.99 that was on the website. A customer service person came and asked me if I needed help and I explained to him the price difference. He went over to the computer and confirmed that they were in fact both the same items. He told me if I went to the service desk that they would honor the price. When I went to the service desk the person helping me was confused but then went and asked (who I later found out was the store manager) how to handle the transaction. She told me that because of the difference in price she would not sell me 4 of them. Upset I said well what difference does it make if I buy them here or online then pick them up.
On the way out the store I ran into a man who's name badge said assistant manager. I told him what was going on and he agreed with me. However he then went to the service counter again and the associate told him what happened. He then talked to woman (who I assume was the store manager) and came back and told me that he could not do it.
I then went to my car and logged into the website to place the order. When I went to place the order all of a sudden there was no memory available to pickup in Brighton. Suspicious? Yes. Now I have to drive 20 miles to Novi to pickup the RAM (Order Number: 4420-833677) . I know what happened. I know that there were 7 of these instock in the Brighton Store. I have a hard time believing that all of a sudden within a few minutes they were gone.
I just wanted to share this with you. I certainly do not feel good about the manager of that store. I have purchased a lot from this store including the Laptop I am using and all the accessories. I can assure you that this store will not be my first choice again when shopping and I will share this story every chance I get. I think there are some really good people at that store that wanted to help but the manager of the store obviously didn’t see it that way.

I bought a laptop from Circuit City with a three-year warranty, and tried to have it repaired before the warranty expired. It took them three weeks to tell me they wouldn't repair it, and didn't provide an understandable explanation until I called their "Customer Advantage" number. There the agent read to me the huge list of exclusions from their repair list - I could hardly think of anything that was covered. From his explanation, damage to the case, even thought it broke from wear, is not covered, and because it wasn't covered, nothing was covered because it's an all or nothing situation. I was an idiot to have purchased their warranty. They offer it to you at checkout time, but it is full of tiny print legalese. I feel it was $225 wasted. I have had plenty of warranty situations, where the rule was one of integrity: "If it breaks during the warranty, we'll repair or replace it", and they have been usually quite satisfactory. That's why I blindly trusted Circuit City. I can't see myself buying anything from them again, after this adventure. I feel that if they were honest, they would put the innumerable restrictions in large type on the wall near their checkout counter, so people could make informed decisions easily.

I purchased a wii & some other items from circuit city online. One package with the wii games, controller, & other items arrived. The wii console did not. After running down the tracking number & calling the post office they told me the package never arrived. Calling circuit city, I had to wait a full 15 days to report the item as lost. I waited the 15 days, reported the item as lost, got authorization to send the other stuff back. Mailed the other stuff back. It's been over a month & I still haven't gotten credit back. I get the runaround everytime I speak to someone. One rep told me they didn't have where I reported it as lost I gave her the reference number & she said her computer was down. Next person told me I had to talk to corporate because they're the only ones to do refunds. Wouldn't give me a direct number to corporate just transferred me. Spoke with corporate said it would be 3 to 5 business days. That was about 20 days ago. Still no refund. Called today, it still hasn't been sent to a case manager, can't give me a name of a supervisor or case manager. Told me they would e-mail it as priority to call back in 3 business days to get status update.

Any ideas of what to do? I just hope this doesn't hurt my credit! I guess I can explain to someone about this blemish if I ever apply for a loan.
