Re: No charity threads!!!
I don't know why KenKun closed his thread, but I would assume it was to avoid flaming. Well, here goes...
I had started a thread last night in which I was selling some t-shirts with the AMD, nVidia, MCI, etc. logos on them. I stated that the proceeds from the sales were going to a friend in need. When I woke up in the morning and checked my PM box, there were a few messages from people who were looking to purchase items. However, there was another PM from a moderator saying that charity threads are forbidden. Now, I went to check my thread to see if anyone had posted in it, and it was deleted. Not closed, but DELETED. I see absolutely no reason for this type of action. My thread at XPC is still very much alive and I don't see why my thread at TechIMO isn't.
That is all, and have a wonderful day. (I'm sure this thread will be closed or deleted by the mods shortly, so there is no need to respond.)

I didn't see the thread but it sure sounds like you broke the rule:
"No charity or donation threads. Due to the potential for abuse, charitable donation threads are not allowed. Please do not post them else they will be removed without warning."
If you left out the charity part it would probably pass..
ps. It's generally best to talk with the mods about this rather than starting another thread.

I don't think the type of thread described is what was meant by the rule though.........my interpretation of charity threads in the rule would mean asking for parts, systems, etc. to be donated. As far as I am concerned, the thread should have been left open, as what a person does with the procedes of sales on here shouldn't matter............ just my opinion...............

If you are selling something like this, and the money is going to charity I don't think that you are in volation of the rule. What they are going against is people begging for money. You were selling items related to the interests of the memebers here, just not keeping the moeny. Also you are a well established memeber, not like someone who showed up to spam.
But, thats the way things have become around here......

I'd PM KenKun to get some clarification as to why.
Maybe a "re-wording" of the thead will solve the problem.

Hi again, Kc2iLq. I will reiterate here, since you started a thread, my PM reply to you. Also, your thread was not deleted; it was removed from this forum.
We simply cannot accept threads that solicit charity or ask for donations because of the potential for abuse. I certainly aplaud your kind-hearted spirit, we can not and will not budge on this issue on the TechIMO forums.
It is well known and I have seen in action that many trolls use these types of scams to prey upon kind-hearted persons to rip them off and scam them and others out of their money or possessions, especially during this holiday season.
While I am not saying this is the case in your friend's situation, the fact is nonetheless we do not allow these type of threads at ANY time for the protection of our membership.
There are many well-known, legal and valid charities to which one can donate, whether via the internet or in their local towns. We encourage those who wish to donate and help others to support these charities.
If Anandtech chooses to let this person advertise and accept donations on their forums, then so be it - let everyone go to Anandtech to donate to him. Likewise, if XPC wants to allow charity/donation threads, that's their right to do so; go there and donate. But the advertising or soliciting for his cause on these forums will not be allowed.
Thanks for your support and understanding and I wish you a Happy Holiday.

Thanks for the replies and thank you for straightening me out Socalgal. I'm still not sure if I understand why my thread was removed, being a F/S thread in which people would buy stuff and would receive it in the mail. Maybe a little clarification would be nice.

| Good thing that he didn't do either.
He is not soliciting donations. He is SELLING items that are sold/traded on this forum every day. What does where the money goes have to do with anything?
I'm sorry, but the mods are flat wrong on this. They are twisting the rule to suit them. Yes, I know they can do this, but it doesn't make it right.
