MSN/TRILLIAN

I've got a question about MSN 6.0. WHY WON'T IT WORK FOR ME?!

Not only that but Trillian is screwed up for me as well. Everything works but MSN. I've tried all this advice from inside this forum and other one's as well and I STILL haven't gotten it to work and it's been days. Damnit, it's just so frustrating. Should I just forget about Trillian and worry about getting MSN 6.0?

Okay. So I go to the msn website and try to download MSN 6.0. The file is currently on my desktop right now and it's called SETUP9X. It tries to install but at the end there's two windows that come up. 1) "MSN Messenger failed to install. Please go to the MSN Messenger Web site and download from there." 2) Then there's another window with a red circle and white x in it that's titled "Installation of System Software Installer SHIP" and the message is, "Command line option syntax error. Type Command /? for Help."

This is just getting real real frustrating for me right now. I have this MSN curse laid on me or something. I've also tried going to MS-DOS and tried troubleshooting this whole MSN ordeal but I can't seem to get that working either. Can anyone go through the step by step process on what I can do to get MSN 6.0 working? If you can and it ends up working for me, godbless you so much. Thanks in advance.

Have you deleted the file, emptied your recycle bin and redownloaded it?

You've probably been bombarded with the MSN "security flaw" things well the deadline to fix wasthe 15th and its the 19th so we've been shut down from there servers till we patch.

MSN/Trillian

It's not about the upgrading. And okay, I downloaded that MSN.DLL file, saved it on my desktop. Then I went to the www.trillian.cc website and downloaded v0.74. After that I found my Trillian folder and then there was the old MSN.DLL file and I took it out and replaced it with the one I just downloaded. After that I clicked the Trillian icon to run the program and then a window pops up saying that my MSN.DLL file needs upgrading. So I agree and click Ok. Then they direct me to the Trillian website and I see a Patch F so I download that into my Trillian folder. Nothing happens afterwards so then I click the Trillian icon once again and Trillian runs. I see the red, yellow, blue etc. etc. colors at the bottom that corralate to Yahoo, IRC, MSN etc. I right click the blue one which is MSN and try to connect but it won't let me. It keeps on connecting, disconnecting, connecting, disconnecting. Actually it's not ever even fully connected. I don't see my contact list or anything. What's going on? Can someone seriously help me?

As of now Trillian does not support MSN anymore. MSN has privatized they're network and are now requiring third party apps to license the right to use MSN.

I don't know of a work around for this, but I'm sure something will come up. But rest assured, it's not you.

Droppyale, what ver of Pro are you usuing?

choms, perhaps your right, I was just having the same problem and upgrading it did fix mine. It just sounds about right as your old MSN doesn't work, and your trillian pro doesn't work.

But hey it might not be, upgrading just fixed my prob though. I don't think upgrading 1.0's msn.dll core will help though. I did that as well, but unsucesfully.

I just updated my MSN messenger but haven't tried Trillian (also have pro 2) since. I don't see how updating one program will fix another though.
