its a 2mb cache.
As far as Maxtor's quality, while its a weird coincidence, I have 3 maxtors in my PC now and this one as well. My 2x40GB Maxtors are liquid bearing things and are increadibly, increadibly quite, and pretty quick. They have been with me for about 1 1/2 years now I think with nary a prob. The one downside if you can call it that is when you turn your PC off because of there bearings (I'm guessing) they sound like a jet engine winding down. For about 4 seconds after the PC's power is turned off they go from silent to this whine that gets deeper then lower and lower in volume till its gone, but that only happens when the PC turns off. It actually sounds kinda neat. The 60GB doesn't do that though. My other Maxtor is a 80GB which is very quite and so far has been perfectly stable!
I have to warn you I do have good luck with drives (might have to do with my house staying around 60f from fall to spring). I still have my 40GB IBM Deskstar aka IBM Deathstar. Its still running like a champ and I think its on its 2nd or 3rd year...3rd I think.
