I would like to try a Promise controller card on my system, but I am not sure it will work on an older motherboard. The specs on that controller indicate it "supports" 66 MHz on PCI Bus 2.2. Does this mean it will, or will not work on earlier motherboards with a 33 MHz bus?.. I don't know. Following data from Newegg:

PROMISE ULTRA100TX2 CONTROLLER CARD

Drive Support: Ultra ATA/100, Ultra ATA/66
PCI Bus: PCI 2.2. Supports 66MHz PCI bus motherboards
Data Transfer Rate: Up to 100MB/sec burst data transfers up
to 200MB/sec burst across 66MHz PCI bus

I am also having a bit of a problem understanding some of your abbreviations, like for instance:

Brain Boy for GB Color $8.85 Shipped Is that GB an abbreviation for Gigabyte?..

I could use a 60 mm fan to replace one that died on a heatsink..but I cannot find any specs on your BS601512H by Coolermaster. Can you tell me anything about it?..like cfm, rpm and/or current draw?.

Will you consider...say, $15 shipped for the controller card and fan? (if I can use the fan, cfm wise).

Your prices are good, and I am not attempting to bargain you down.. I just do not know if I can use them or not. I have a box full of stuff I have purchased that I cannot use for one reason or another..

LMK if you will (later) reconsider if they do not sell quickly.

Thanks.

Fan is a pull from this heatsink
the BS601512H fan produced by Bi-Sonic Technology Corp. has quite a low impeller speed - about 4500 rpm, but its performance is rather high (22 CFM). Besides, this fan (together with the DP5-6H51 heatsink) has a low noise level whose spectral distribution is very "friendly" to a human ear (sound pressure levels in octave parts of 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz are not very high and almost equal).

Promise controler info right from Promise FAQ page

What are the motherboard requirements of the Ultra100?
Cause: Minimal Ultra100 Requirements, PCI 2.1 Compliancy, Bus-Mastering Enabled.

Solution: Is your motherboard, at least, PCI 2.1 compliant? The Ultra100 will not work on a motherboard that is less than PCI 2.1 compliant. You can get this information from motherboard specifications or the manufacturer of the computer. Other requirements would be a PnP BIOS on your motherboard and that your motherboard supports bus mastering. The Ultra100 will not work in your computer if either one of these requirements are not met.

As far as the TX2 controller, if you look here http://www.promise.com/marketing/dat...U100TX2_en.pdf

youll see in the first paragraph that it is completely backwardly compatible with 33mhz pci slots. (Plus I guess it is sort of a tipoff that it says it works with stuff as old as w95.)

Thank you for the PM mritz.. here is the specs on this board, according to Sandra:

The mainboard is an ASUS P5A-B SS7 running a K6-2 500 W/256 mb PC100

PCIBus(es)
Version 2.10
No Buses 2 (?) <<-- My question mark.. I don't have a clue.
Bus Speed 33 MHz
Speed Multiplier 1/3x

Looks like the card would work...so, let me know if it is still available (SiliconJon PM'd you).
