I am looking into purchasing a DVD +-R\RW Drive and some DVD R's.

Can anyone recommend a good place to purchase good quality DVD R's and a DVD Burner at a decent price?

Thanks In Advance!!

Have you tried looking at www.pricewatch.com ? What I would do is check over there, see if there's a model that you like, then go to www.resellerratings.com to see if the company selling the product is good or not. As for anything specific, sorry, I don't have one for you.

Save yourself money and get yourself just a +r/+rw drive. You don't need a dual format DVD burner. Unless you have ancient DVD players, you won't even use (-) media. You will see some information on the Internet which are outdated information that (-) media has better compatibility vs. (+) media. That's not the case today. Unless you absolutely need compatibility with both formats, buy yourself (+) compatible DVD burners and save yourself money. Only downside I can see to (+) media is that they cost a bit more. Like 10% more...

Will there be a time when the format for DVDs will become standardized?

Thank you for your responses, btw I checked PriceWatch and resellerratings.com, almost every reseller at a decent price was very low rated. I think I will just go with a + RW drive though. It sounds like I shouldn't need anything more than that.

Does anyone have a preferance and reason why regarding a specific brand?

Thank you again all!

NDC -

Maximum PC had a tidbit in this months issue claiming -r is the most compatible and gave the linkage to the study here. . I just ordered a dual format just in case.

Yes the Sony DRU10a/DW-UA10 is a good dual format drive. I have the Pioneer A06/DVR-106 dual format drive.

AS for media... I have used Fuji DVD-R and Memorex DVD-R so far and they have worked flawlessy for me. From what I have read, Ritek "G04" is the best stuff out right now. DVD-R Help has tons of great info for the DVD enthusiast.
