What price range are you looking for? You can run up to Wal-Mart and pick up a brand new Apex DVD player for under $50.00. We got one for my son and it works fine.

Unless you're talking about a DVD player for the computer. Then you can order a Lite-On 16x dvd player from Newegg.com for under $40.

Food Sorry, but I must speak out!

Please reconsider the Apex player. It IS cheap. But you can buy a low-level Sony or Panasonic for not much more. And it will likely be a better performer. Look for one without progressive scan but with an S-video out. These should be really cheap and will work just fine with a typical TV.

My local Best Buy is showing a Toshiba SD2900 for $59.99 this week. It must be better than that Apex.

I actually had really bad luck with the two Toshibas I bought. Nieither was progressive scan but they would both skip while playing brand new DVDs.

I would agree with CrazyRay against the Apex though - they are pretty cheap. I had two different Apexs (which left me with the impression that we weren't made to last so I took them back) two Toshibas of the same model (neither of which worked, sorry I can't remember the model number) and right now I have a Panasonic S35. The Panasonic is a progressive scan and seems to be a really well made unit - after using the other four I must say I'm quite impressed.

Even if you decide to go with a different brand/model I would recomend that you get a model that plays SVCD's. Not having that ability would seriously hinder your ability to play backup your DVD collection without buying a DVD burner.

Actually, my bro has the Apex with 3-disc changer and Karaoke capability (req. in an Asian family, of course ), which he bought...I'd say almost two years ago, and it still works great. The only problem is a dyslexic remote, but other than that, it fits the bill.

But don't count on me alone; check some reviews! After all, you are looking at this post on the internet!

Me: Hey Jim, we've been more than fellow soldiers, but to me like brothers. Would you take a bullet for me?
Jim: Paul, as long as it doesn't penetrate skin or vital organs, fine. Just finish your burger and help guard the base before they get our flag.
