Talk RSR/Techimo challenge.......

O.K.......I love doing this........it's "daydream" time. Lotsa' great deals out there (that $249 Compaq still keeps me up at night). This is a challenge to see what you can put together with what's out there in the market. Figure middle ballpark, then you can always go down if your $30 really only cost you $14 after rebates etc.......

Looking to build a contemporary system that would satisfy EVERYBODY!!! (Extreme gamers probably excluded but moderate gaming is a must......)

Case $25 shipped (gotta love it)
descent/cheap mobo & CPU combo circa 2GHz $90 (or break this down if you feel it's better to)
Descent video card $100??? (possibly the biggest variable in this scenario??)
Sound card........I'm gonna go cheap here & say that 6-channel onboard sound satisfies most! $0
Fan/heatsink $20
256mb DDR $50 (333-400 ballpark)
100gig HD $80
CDRW $20
DVD rom $30
Floppy (ugh) $10

I think that's about it. Fans & other nickel & dime stuff can be thrown in if you really like that 3-color LED for the side of your spider-window case.....he he! Okeeeee Dokeeeee start cuttin' corners with what you know..............................(c;

Save yourself $10 and skip the floppy. I've lived without one for ages now, haven't missed it. If I need to get files from school to my home PC's, I use email.

Allright you guys ain't playin' by the rules!!! Specifics!!! Specifics, I tell ya!!!!!!!!

What you were supposed to say was.........."Hey, shine the floppy and grab that 6in1 reader for $10 at newegg that can be mounted in the case........then with your 1 gig Compact Flash card you've basically got a 1Gig keychain hard drive!!!)

And where are all the gamers out there who are supposed to point to the smokin' deals on the ti4600's???

And, I suppose the Geek's case w/ mobo installed might be a substitute for mobo/cpu??

Now get back to work!!!!!!!!!!!

How 'bout that Shuttle MN31N NForce 2 MB (with integrated sound, LAN, and mx440 graphics) for $87 shipped plus an XP2000 retail for 67 shipped.

That would give you the MB, Processor, HSF, LAN and Video for a little over $150. Not great gaming performance, but should work OK with all but the newest games.

Good thoughts..........but.......I've dug some more myself.......check this out...........

I can B&M mobo/XP2000 for $75. Then HS/F for $15. Then cheezy mx400 64mb agp card for $45. That's $135 so about $15 breathing room provided the mx400 card can mimic the mx440 onboard performance. (if nothing else, avoiding shared memory??)

Then from $135 go B&M 120gb HD w/ 8mb cache for $85!
Then the $10 6in1 + $30 dvdrom + $20 CDRW
Oh, forgot to add $45 for 256mb DDR 400/3200 (B&M too).
Add the $25 geek case & hope the psu works & that puts us at..........(carry the 1, plus 3, add 2 mumble, mumble).........$350! No o/s, no fancy LED's but pretty descent machinery with LOTS of storage!!

Worth puttin' together or not really, compared to the Compaq/HP deals out there!?? (Grrrr......grumble.......Compaq...two, flippin' forty-nine...grumble, grumble!)
