Have you tried Compaq? Back when we used to do warranty work on Compaqs the Quick Restore CD had to match the serial # on the PC. I once caught a call where a school had 3 Compaqs and one of them puked a hard drive. Back then you had to use a boot floppy. To work the PC, Boot Floppy, & Restore CD all had to match. The guy got the disks all mixed up. Were talking 27 different possible combos here (3x3x3=27).

It might not matter anymore but I'd check into it.

Mike

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I tried Compaq. My system is OEM, and when I got it I didn't get the CD's. And I didn't know I was supposed to have them. It is past the 3 year license agreement with microsoft, and they WON"T sell me the restore CD's. I bought from Circuit City, and they said they can't help me. I did buy the extended service and everything is still covered till next July. My problem isn't unique, as I have read recently. While doing a backup, I got a message box that D: wasn't big enough so it had to repartition D; at the expense of C: .......So your going along just fine....then it froze....shut down ....restart....now all my Compaq system tools are gone. Got a message box once when trying to get to Restore...."Factory Image File missing"

Sorry for going on and on, but maybe someone might read this and be able to help. I sure thank you for trying!

You can buy a new QuickRestore CD by visiting the following Web site:

http://qrcons.orderz.com/page1.asp

You can also order a new QuickRestore CD by calling the Compaq Order Center at 1-800-841-2761 in the U.S. (1-800-952-7689 in Canada), and selecting Option 1.

Quick Restore disk for Presario 4540

Call Compaq at 800 652-6672, or call me at 928 774-5942. I think I have a couple of extra disks that I am willing to sell for $5 each. Dan.

New to the forum, just been surfing the trading posts. Happen to have a 1.6 GIG compaq presario 72xx HD, windows 95 loaded on it, Manuals, CD, and coa.

It was working when I pulled it, but don't think it will migrate to another hardware setup. PM me if you are interested, I'll dig it out of the closet for more specs.
