I'm in San Diego, Ca. By watching the sales (small stores as well
as the big chain stores) I've seen prices of $30.00 up to ????
for HDD's in the size you mentioned.

This is what I have for sale in my post.
Maxtor 30gb 7200rpm HD, new in retail package - $45
Western Digital 40gb 5400rpm, refurb/RMA still sealed in bag from WD - $40
Maxtor 40gb, 5400rpm, used but under warranty - $40

My post: http://www.techimo.com/forum/t57821.html
I'm in Indiana so I'd be willing to ship one of these drives to Michigan for $6. If you Paypal the payment I can ship immediately.

Sorry guys.

I have been down with the shacking uglies the last week, and just plain forgot to get back to all of you for all your help.

I got the system in question to boot yesterday a couple of times, long enough to see for myself what was going on.

The power supply (third rate, dollar store junk) (BTW: It's an old E-Machines) (Sticker says "Never Obsolete". That's because its dead before it gets old enough to be obsolete.)

Anyway, back to the power supply. It was sending thru spikes and surges and all sorts of words, which is where the damage to the MOBO (all in one, nothing else to damage) came from.

The hard drive seems to bedoing OK, will have better opinion of that later in the week. The best news is that the hard drive is a Maxtor 15 Gig, not a no name 2 gig (as I had been led to believe).

Anyway, assuming all goes well, and that the drives are re-usable, this weekend will see a bunch of us upgrading, and for less than any one of us! (Don't ask, I don't want to jinx the deal).

Again, I want to apologize for forgeting to get back to all of you with the answer when I promised.
