I am a small web developer that works from home. I have good hardware connections so I keep my home system up to date almost all of the parts are less than six months old.
However here is my situation: I find myself going out of town a lot for presentations and conferences, and I find myself going to show an initial stage web design and you would not believe how many potential customers either have a monitir that looks all funny (colorwise), have the wrong driver installed for their graphics card, or just a machine that is so slow it takes 20 minutes to boot.
I really feel that trading my desktop in (as much as I love Winona, hehehe) would benefit me greatly in a number of ways.
1) I would be able to work on designs even out of town
2) I can go into a presentation and not have to worry about what hardware I will be presented in
3) I will no longer have to post a design on the web so that my custom graphics can't be swiped till the customer pays for them (had that happen once, whole design was swiped)
The desktop specs are
Pentium 4 2.4Mhz, 80G Western Digital 8M Buffer, 512M ddr PC2700, Asus P4B533 Deluxe (Raid, Sound, Nic, 1394),Geforce 4, Teac Burner 12x (This is not new but I have refused to upgrade becuase it is so reliable), Floppy, Antec Case (windowed case with blue lit power supply) I have taken the time to tie back all the wiring so that the view is completely unobstructed. Newq Equalizer Platinum, Swapable HDD bay. I am currently running Windows .Net Server 2003. However if you are looking to play games it could be switched with xp nicely.
I love this machine, but the reasons pointing me to a laptop are to many and I just can't justify buying one outright at this time. I can take cash offers too.
