Outdoors network cable unplugged

I just put in a new network card into my new pc. I am networking my two home computers. My pc is the server and my sons is the client. I had them hooked up thur a hub but didn't like the connections so i just put a second network connection in mine. Now I am getting a "network cable is unplugged" message and cannot access the other computer. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Are you hooking Nic to nic ... with a Cat5 cable??? ..... if so you have to use a "Cross over" cable in stead..... or go back to using the hub .....
BTW ~ a hub should not slow down the connection at all.

yeah, a hub shouldn't slow down your connection. Unless you are talking about accessing the web on dial-up, then there is nothing you can do about it!

If the hub is 10mb half dublex it does slow down lan transfer, assuming the nics can do 100mb full dublex.

PartsMan has the answer, you can't directly connect to computers without crossover cable.
