DDR Memory for possibly for sale....

I'm getting a new A7N8X-DX (DELUXE) mobo to replace a soyo Dragon and want to upgrade the memory shortly after I get the board. Right now I have two 256MB Crucial PC2100 (I think...) DDR ECC sticks in my system. I want to upgrade to a single Corsair 512MB later, so I will need to sell these. Any interest? I don't really know how much I should ask for them. They will be a year old on Feb 22nd. Is $75 each a fair price?

Paul

To be perfectly honest, that's a little steep. We got a 256-MB DDR PC2100 DIMM from BB a few weeks ago for less than $30 after rebate. You can check Techbargains for up-to-date RAM prices as well.

looks like techbargians lists it at $69.34 (this is the ECC memory). So I guess I should ask for $50 a stick then.

I have an A7N8X non-Deluxe and I've read that nForce2 memory performance is supposedly a little better in dual-channel mode, but with more than one module it only works at DDR333 (or PC2700) speed. So if you were planning on getting XMS2700, you would probably want to get 2 256mb sticks instead of a single 512mb one. But if you were going to get XMS3200, then go with the single module.

Thanks for the tip! right now I only have a 1.4ghz (266) athlon, so the dual channel wouldn't do much for me right now (right?). But when i upgrade the CPU sometime in the future it would.

Well DDR400 only significantly outperforms DDR333 if the CPU is run @ 400mhz bus, synchronous to the RAM. I don't know that much about Tbirds since I skipped from Duron to XP in my last upgrade. But I would say it's probably difficult to get your CPU stable at 400 bus. I have a 1700+ Tbred which is really cheap and factory unlocked by nForce2 so you can underclock the multiplier and increase the bus without actually running the CPU faster than stock. Tbred 1700's are I think $50 shipped at New Egg or something like that. But if you are sticking with your current CPU for a while, I would say go with a 512 stick of XMS2700 since the CPU is going to be the limiting factor and the 2700 RAM is a bit cheaper. But if you're going to upgrade the CPU sometime soon, get the XMS3200 and run that mofo @400 sync!! That's what I'm doing and there was definitely a noticeable performance jump.
