WTB 3+ Megapixel camera...

Hey, all...

I have been wanting to buy a 3 or 4 megapixel camera for awhile now, and have been checking prices just recently. But these two cameras caught my eye:

Olympus C-4000 Zoom (4.1MP, 3200x2400, 3x Opt, 16MB SM) $358.98

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_g...8b63d5c3e9b324

or

D-550 (3MP, 1984 x 1488, 2.8X Opt, 18MB SmartMedia) $267.23

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_g...8b63d5c3e9b324

It doesn't necessarily have to be Olympus brand, but I've heard that they are pretty good. Does anyone have any experience with these or other good digital cameras?

I would like to eventually find a 3 MP around $200 or a 4 MP around $250. Thanks for any comments or info!

David

olympus and canon...have experience with both and like them both. olympus has a better optical zoom which is nice. comes down to whether you want a point and shoot or something with more of a zoom.

Thanks for the replies... I've never been too exstatic about Kodak's digital cams. Although it is a good deal,... if you can find it.

I might go down there tonight and see if they have one(Or two ) Joplin, MO has three supercenters so I might have to go to them all to find it.

Let me know though if you see any other good deals on cameras, especially olympus and canon and minolta.

Thanks, Again!

I just called wal-mart and they have 2 or 3 left @ $154!

So, I'll probably be going right now to go get one. But, now about memory...

Is there a difference in diff brands of mem?

I'm wanting probably at least 128MB. And this camera takes MMC or SD memory. Which is better or cheaper?

Thanks

I have the nikon coolpix 885, and its excellent! I bought it at bestbuy and got the warranty. If i were to you should get it there. They have good warrantys and if any problems, you get a new one immediaedly, no shipment to the manufacturer, except sony branded items. When the select button broke off, they replaced it, no questions asked. I recommend it. Thanks

imac9556, thanks for the info!

Just got back from Wal-Mart and they had 5 of the Kodak CX4300's left. So, I got one of them and they still have 4 left. It's a pretty good little camera, and $154 for a 3+ MegaPixel camera is a GREAT deal.

Thanks for the link, dunbar!!

If you want one go get it at walmart, and if anything goes wrong with it, just take it back and they'll give you your money back!

Thanks everybody!

(I'm still thinking about that Olympus C-4000 Zoom, looks like a real great camera.)

No prob! (but please - put down the bazooka/rocket launcher, eh? So hard to talk this way....)

Memory: my Fuji Finepix 2600 (2.1 mp) gets 40 shots at highest quality, on a 32 meg card. Your mileage will vary a bit because of the 50% increase in pixels to get 3.1 MP, but remember: 36 shots per roll of 35mm film. I'd say that a good size of card would be 128 megs for a 3.1 MP camera..... I'd expect it to store about 60 shots. Nothing worse than going somewhere with the camera and having a camera card which is already full, so I keep the card empty.

Avoid zooms which are all digital - the digital zoom simply reduces pixels.

USB or Firewire transfers will save on wear and tear on the memory stick/card: My employers Olympus C3030Z blew its' memory card section from repeated use that way (we'd shoot some pix, pull the card out, put the card in a reader, then put the card back into the camera, over and over and over.... but the camera already had USB capability which would have spared the damage to the camera, had a certain supervisor not taken the USB cables for another use...) $170 in out-of-warranty repairs. Could have bought a newer camera for that $$. The memory card was fine (.... a $300 television set will protect a $0.08 fuse by blowing first)

I like my rocket launcher...

The Kodak CX4300 only had 2x digital zoom. It also has USB transfer already builtin, no need for a card reader, or that $80 camera dock. But, it's for my mother and she was just wanting a good quality, point-and-shoot type. So, I'm still looking at other cameras. I just like the Olympus C-4000 Zoom. It's got alot of features and for the price is a pretty good camera.

Keep your eyes open for this one... Thanks
Also looking for a good 128MB or 256MB memory. What is the difference between MMC types and SD types. Is one faster than the other??

And about the TV... I know the feeling!
