Buying/Selling Alternative

i just wanted to post this as an alternative way of doing business on line when buying or selling items.

Collect on Delivery (COD)

Allows mailers to collect the price of goods and/or postage on merchandise ordered by addressee when it is delivered. COD service can be used for merchandise sent by First-Class Mail, Express Mail, Priority Mail, Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter, and Media Mail. The amount to be collected from the recipient may not exceed $1,000. A delivery record is maintained by the USPS.

COD service may combined with Delivery Confirmation, registered mail, restricted delivery, return receipt, Signature Confirmation, or special handling for an additional fee. This service is not available for international mail or for mail addressed to APO and FPO addresses. COD mail must be presented to a retail employee at a post office or to a rural carrier.

Fees include insurance. Maximum amount is $1,000.

Collect on Delivery Fees

Amount to be collected or insurance desired.

Fee in addition to postage

$0.01 to $ 50.00--- $4.50
50.01 to 100.00----- 5.50
100.01 to 200.00----6.50
200.01 to 300.00--- 7.50
300.01 to 400.00--- 8.50
400.01 to 500.00--- 9.50
500.01 to 600.00--- 10.50
600.01 to 700.00--- 11.50
700.01 to 800.00--- 12.50
800.01 to 900.00--- 13.50
900.01 to 1,000.00 -14.50

For Express Mail COD shipments, the COD fee is based on the amount to be collected. Express Mail insurance automatically provides up to $100 merchandise insurance.

Restricted delivery—$3.50 (not available with Express Mail COD)

Notice of nondelivery—$3.00

Alteration of COD charges or designation of new addressee—$3.00

Registered COD—$4.00 (fee for registered COD, regardless of amount to be collected or insurance value)

if the customer doesn't pay the sender will only be out of the postage/service fees and not the item.

if the customer pays the mail man then the money order is mailed out the next business day.

if the customer comes to the window and pays the money order is sent out the same day.

let me know if there are any other questions. i will look back on this post again later.

This is an old post from the community.
I was thinking about this post and decided to move this information here so our Traders would see the info in the thread.

This is a great way to get to know a new trader, and a great way for a new trader to get started.

I would be much more comfortable spending a couple extra bucks on postage to ensure I got the package I expected.

Not sure, and I don't have time to check into it, but could mail fraud enter into a ripoff trade? hmmm

Are any of you guys using COD?

I'm not, but I've dealt with CODs. The sender of the COD can request Check to Mailer or Money Order. If the customer uses cash, it is converted to a money order and sent that way. Payable options are cash (money order), check, money order, and debit card. Although one might wonder why debit card and not credit card, it is because a debit card can purchase a money order whereas a credit card will not (via the Postal Service).

Just my .02 cents worth.

The problem with COD is that the sender could send you a box with a 'brick' in it and you CANNOT open the package to check the contents before you pay so......that could be a large problem.
Regards, Don

Sending a brick could constitute "Mail Fraud".

besides the 'old brick in the box trick', the receiver could also refuse the merchandise. not sure if this would mean the shipper would get hit w/the shipping charges on the return trip but it is something to be aware of.

still...COD is another viable alternative to those who might be uncomfortable sending payment before ever getting their goods.

I gotta say paying with a Postal money order gives you protection with the US Postal Service and makes both parties feel safer. Waiting is a bit of a hassle but much less so than getting ripped off by PayPal who offers little or no protection.
