Systems WIN 95 Recovery CD for HP Pavilion

Help. I decided a new string is in order. We are legion that own an older computer the "almost" works fine. To have a scratch on a recovery disc block key program reloading is too frustrating. I almost had a solution locally, but it turned out in a samantical error - they had reboot, not recovery. So there it is - where can I get an old working Recovery CD for my HP Pavilion 8140. I also found out its the "B" edition recovery. Ever hopeful in Maryland, USA. Carl.

HP has no recovery CD's for Win95 systems, and most of the Win98 systems. You can try calling.

1-800-227-8164 - thats the parts dept.

Thanks for the responses/helpful suggestions.

I did check HP: the web-site wouldn't recognize any of my product anmes/modelnumbers/part numbers. Finally, after over 3 hours, I found and called the parts 1-800 no. Bless Jenifer for being an understanding sould. She confirmed that WIN 95 was too old, as well as WIN 98 and HP doesn't support it anymore. Would have been nice if the HP web-site recognized the product info and said it was obsolete and didn't stock it anymore.

I went to ebay and found over 106 pages of offers, none for a Recovery CD, but dozens for "magic" boot up discs for WIN 95/98/2000 XP.

I thought I had it made when a local IP said they could download the files onto floppies for cheap. Ah-well .... A second call found out they meant "boot up" not Recovery.

I did somethind right by accident and can print again. I even managed to copy my defunct saved aol msg file cabinet onto a floppy for storage. But, I still can't open my current AT&T Service (on the old- I am on the new computer). Anyway, thanks for staying with me on this. I'll announce any further local success. I'm thinking of advertising my need on the company "classified ads" page on our home page. There could be as many as 3,000 folks that may read it and, hey, I only need one clean working Recovery CD. You can bet I'll make more than one copy when I do.

Good night. Carl.

In my area the Video rental stores have equipment that they use to repair scratched/damaged DVD's. Many of them also offer the service to their customers (they will remove scratches from CD's and DVD's for a few bucks apiece). If the scratch you have isn't real severe, you could try that approach.

Thanks to groundzero, ebaker and ragtop. I checked out your suggestions. HP no longer supports WIN 95, the polishing methods are intriguing and the video option seems doable. I did put an ad on my agency's web site and am waiting for a reply(ies) I'll check into the video store soon. A couple of computer supply stores also offerred a manual and an electric disc polished for removuing different severity of scratches. At $30 for the manuasl and $49 for the electric, I'm hesitating, but may follow-up soon anyway; depending on the response (or lack of response) from my fellow workers. Thanks, again for jumping in. Carl.

Try Meguiars #17 Plastic Cleaner, it will remove deep scratches[not gouges] from plastic windshields, motorcycle helmets, CD's and most anything made of plastic. My used helmet looked terrible, it now looks new.

At Autozone for sure, some mom & pop auto "body shop supply" shops will have it also.

It's $5.95 and also is good for your plastic headlight covers that all modern cars are equipped with ..

Doc

BTW, polish from inside to outside ,, NOT round and round..

edit;
found linky
http://www.meguiars.com/product_show...cfm?SrcLine=PI

This is the online p/n for #17
M-1708 ....................8 oz. $6.25

I suggest skipping step #2 which is #10
M-1008 ....................8 oz. $6.25

Step 2 is for only final polishing of eyeglasses etc, I find the #17 makes a mirror finish to anything else.
