Beware of used XBOX 360's

A great many XBOX 360's were recently "banned", in that their crypto keys have been revoked. This means that the console itself is banned from XBOX Live's service. Many of these 360's, supposedly all of which are modded being the reason for their revokation, are winding up on the used market and you can count on some folks trying to dupe their buyers, either by omission or blatant deception, into purchasing an item they would otherwise not have purchased should they have known or understood that the console in question cannot connect to XBL.

Very good advice,there's a huge amount of these banned systems out there now that are essentially crippled when it comes to doing anything online.I'd be careful about buying a used system even from dealers like Gamestop,since the testing they give used systems can be limited to playing a game disc and not even checking online functions.

that sucks... good advice... would have never have known that.. even though I would probably never buy a 360 .. . more of a pc person myself...

well im more partial to ps3s for many reasons...this is another.

this thread should be a sticky, to help warn people that might buy a used xbox on this website, to make sure the people selling them aren't trying to rip them off.

Not the most simple.

I'm partial to my PS3, too, Speculant. We have both - in fact two 360's and only one PS3, and the PS3 is MY machine. The kids can have their 360's. Now that Netflix is supported directly on the PS3 (albeit with a disc) I may never turn that thing off when I'm home. (pandora, netflix, playon, and of course the games)

Do not buy Xbox 360's of ebay, most likely they are banned xbox 360's. Be careful.

I'm strictly a PC gamer myself as well,besides the superior graphics and game mods,you have keyboard/mouse support which no console has.But I wouldn't be surprised at all if Sony starts banning modded PS3's online as well,it's all about the money they lose on pirated games.

one would think playing pirated games on PS3s would be a bit harder, because of the fact that you would need to buy a blu-ray burner and blank media, which is very expensive compared to a dvd burner and DL dvds for an Xbox 360.

on the flip side, on a ps3 the hard drive is easier to connect to a computer and transfer files (possibly pirated games) onto it.

Heh, this is what I saw checking on the thread before logging in...irony, though not unexpected given the way keyword ads work.

I bought myself a wireless keyboard mouse for my PS3, but it hardly works right. (giggle: it's a Microsoft brand)

did you know you can buy a controller adapter that makes it so that you can use a mouse and keyboard for console games? i know they are available for 360s, but im not sure about ps3s.
