Once upon a time, a troll named Steffan Perry, aka Mall57, was looking to make a quick buck by selling some hard drives at a great price. He listed them as "taken out of customer computers from a hardware shop for upgrades, returns, ect." So thinking we were getting a great deal on some used drives, me and many others bought some from him.
What we received instead were a bunch of broken, non functioning HDDs. They were shipped in nothing more than a pink plastic bag wrapped in a thin piece of bubble wrap with newspaper used as packing.
PIC1 PIC2 After many attempts at requesting a refund, a Mark Hanley responded by simply stating that they were sold "as-is" and no refund was given. Even their now defunct website, Mall57.com stated that "We cover all products damaged or lost durring shipping."
What they failed to mention was that they were part of a
salvage lot. Salvage is defined as: "intended for professional buyers, as most can be used only for parts." After learning of this, I again contacted them about a refund and was promptly refused.
They have been reported to the Internet Fraud Watch and to the USPS. They have been banned from trading at eBay, PbNation, Anandtech, PC Perspective, Reselleratings, Techimo, Howard Forums, Rage3D, Computer Forums, MacNN Forums, Apple Matters Forums, and GSMArena amongst others.
He has used the aliases of Mall57, Arcadie, Luxattire and is now going around doing business as Avadyne.
He has negative ratings here at
ResellerRatings,
PbNation and at
Heatware.
He is also listed on the TrollHunters
Traders to Avoid List.
He is currently doing business as
Avadyne Corporation and
WireLess Rave with his partner, Mark Hanley.
Apparently, they are still buying/selling broken drives as evidenced by
this listing at Tradekey.com.
Looking back at my emails with him prior to purchasing, this strikes me as funny: I asked him if he could ship first as I have excellent Heatware. His reply was "Sorry i realy cant i have been scammed twice before with people with great feedback."
It looks like he's a spammer too. He wanted to get back at eBay and PayPal for banning him:
