PENDING ! Silverstone Berserker (SST-B032FW) Maxi-mid Tower computer case.[/b] The metal is finished in a glossy true black and the plastic bezel is gunmetal gray and black. The case has a large window on the left side which is backed with a wire mesh (like mini-chicken wire pattern) to help limit RFI/EMI emissions. It is a very roomy case that will accept 12x10" (standard ATX) and smaller motherboards. Everything that came with it
and more will go with it except for the metal scraps that I removed from the lower bay EMI plates to make way for a 120mm fan. Silverstone no longer markets this case thru the retail channel, but it is still available to the system integrator/VAR market as an OEM part.
. The same basic chassis has been (and may still be) available under several different names. The first I saw it was in the Enermax "Shiny Titanium" version (always too rich for my blood) and then there was the Bow Systems version, the PCMCIS version sold for a while by Fry's/Outpost which has now become the Bow Systems version, the KeyPower version (the original Bow Systems version), the Opus version etc. etc. The only differences being the bezel style or color and some other trim details - the basic chassis are all the same. I beat all of them on the bottom line (unless you can go and pick one up), so you don't need to search unless you really hate how the Berserker looks. And the "Big B" really does look better in person...

. The only place that still advertizes it per Froogle is Xoxide - Pricewatch shows nothing. I'm going to link their
Berserker page so you can see more pix of it and I can send even more pix if needed, just send your email address to me in a Private Mail. I'm not worried at all about your seeing their price as I beat them pretty good unless you live near Philly and can drive to their dock and pick it up (I'm not even sure they allow pick-ups as they don't allow for walk-in customers). I am also linking the
review of it that I did here on TechIMO. You will see that the Berserker is one of the most flexible case designs available for the money and would serve well for just about any seriously heavy system or entry-level server. Excellent for water cooling if that's your bag. The bottom bay can hold just about any HDD hot-swap cage or multi-drive rack made like the Coolermaster 4-in-3 or the Lian Li 4 drive rack or the Thermaltake iCage.
. I have talked this case up for several years and now that I've settled into my comfy little rut, it's time to move the Big B out (I seldom keep a major piece of hardware more than 1.5 or 2 years). If you're always tweaking your system, changing parts in and out, hanging stuff you are "testing" on and all around your case, well then, this baby deserves a VERY HARD LOOK! One could hardly find a more tweak-friendly chassis. I'm not going to be doing as much of that any more, so something less geek'O'licious will be taking its place.
. I'm pricing it at $60.00 + UPS shipping, which will include a rear fan and a 120mm front fan - which aren't included with the case from the factory. If you know me at all, then you know that these aren't your average fans either...

.
. Here are a couple of example shipping charges to consider:
to Illinois 62931 - $15.50 -- to California 90210 - $25.50 by ground insured. These are to commercial addresses, residential addresses cost a couple bucks more - it pays to have a friend in business so you can save some bucks on UPS shipping. These are on an estimated weight as I'm still using it - but they will be close. May be a few pounds more than the original 23 due to the fans, damping material, etc. that will come along with it. I'll be able to ship this either early next week (July 17/18) or on the 26th (and usually every other Wed. after that) as those are the days I schedule a trip to the city - no UPS or FedEx pickup in my little podunk junction...

Zippy HP2-6460P ATX/EATX/EPS12V power supply, modified. Conservatively rated at 460 Watts with 27 Amps continuous (32A max) on the +12 rail. For those who don't know, Zippy is on the top tier of switching PSU makers for quality - ask anyone who really knows his/her stuff. Here is the factory page
LINKAGE. . This heavy duty, server-grade, nickel plated (helps contain RFI/EMI emissions - few do this any more) beauty came without the thermally controlled fan (an extra-cost factory option) so it was very noisy. Therefore, I modified it. The restrictive grille seen in the factory link above went away and I replaced the fan with a Vantec TF8025 which has integrated temp control - much quieter and I protected it with a wire finger guard (least restrictive type) and isolated it with a Vantec silicone gasket. Here is how it looks now:
Modified. This fan also has a speed sensor lead so you can monitor the second most important fan in your system if you want.
. As with most high-end Zippy PSUs, this one has active PFC (power factor correction) which makes it a friendlier load to the power system (and may get a few extra minutes uptime from a UPS). That along with the full-range input voltage compensation (note that there is no voltage selector switch) makes a computer relatively immune to AC line side garbage even without a UPS.
. The connector complement: 24-pin EPS12V/EATX (can also be used with a standard 20-pin ATX mobo connector if there is a bit of clearance off the end of the mobo connector or with an adapter (or I can put a 20-pin connector shell on it), 8-pin dual CPU (2x4), 4-pin P4-12V (2x2), eight drive connectors (7 HDD, 1 FDD).
I can rearrange these to suit your system at a reasonable parts and labor cost if needed. Here is a link to the connector
diagram.
. The wiring pigtails are long - great for the Antec P180, the original Stacker or other strangely arranged cases and large server boxes. The ATX-EPS12V and other motherboard connectors are 22" and the drive cables are 21" to the first connector plus another 7" to the second connector (only two connectors per pigtail). All measurements are of the wire only and do not include the length of the connectors. I will include a few zip ties to tie back any excess cabling.
. . All wiring except for the FDD connector and sensor wires is 18 gauge wire - not the 20 or 22 gauge that is typical on PSUs today. Plus these Zippys are still made in Taiwan, not the PRC.
. I've been using this in my main machine since early this year, but my system only needs about 200W at most and I have several other PSUs kicking around. Even though I really like the Zippy, I decided I need the $$s more - and someone with a really power sucking machine could make better use of it.
. The current low price on a new HP2-6460P per Froogle is ~$100.00 +sh and sales tax if applicable.
But this one (with all the stuff you would do to it if you had the tools and skillz already done) can be yours for $60.00 + $8.50 priority shipping + insurance (optional). Includes a nice power cord and a set of mounting screws and washers - I'll throw in a fan extension in case you need it to reach a mobo fan connector to monitor the fan.
Save another 5% taken off after the 7% sale disct by buying both the Berserker and the Zippy together. They really work well together!
