I have used mine only two times. The first time, it took me a bit to know what I was doing. By the second project, it worked great. I had a small soldering job on the vga connection and not having a cord or too large a heated point was perfect. I do very little soldering and probably won't use mine again any time soon. Hopefully a voice of experience will drop by and give you more information.

I bought one the other day and at first I wasn't impressed. It takes some getting used to, but I think it's more aimed towards PCB soldering. What I was doing pretty much required a regular iron but it could've been me as well.

I have a Cold Heat iron and was wondering if the current that heats the tip go's into the currect board also and could damage it. I did not care for it.
