WTB - 2D PCI Video Card

Hello everyone,

I am a writer who is putting together a machine just for writing. Right now I am stuck using an intel 810 video built into the motherboard, but the video display is wavy and driving me insane.

So, I need a PCI (not express) video card that produces crisp text. No need for games or 3D. I want to do 1024 x 768 at 100Mhz if possible. I hate low refresh rates.

Anyone got any advice or selling a beast that fits this description?

I've seen some old number 9 cards for very cheap and I remember number 9 as being very nice crisp 2D cards, but I am guessing that the refresh rates on them might not be good.

by 9 cards do you mean the ATI Radeon 9 series? All those cards should do what you need it to do

Heh heh heh... yeah, ATI Radeon 9 would definetly take care of the job!

I was referiing to the now defunt company "number9". Way back in the day they were known for quality 2D cards, back when voodoo was an add on card for 3D.

I think I have some Matrox Millenium PCI video cards. Originally 2mb but they have the additional 2mb upgrade module on them. These cards with the extra 2mb originally cost about $250-300. These cards had the high priced cutting edge "dual ported Wram. It was top of the line in it's day. If this would work let me know and I'll look for them.

What would you want for one?

I really think they would work fine. I'm looking for 1024 x 768 idealing at a refresh of 100, but 85 would suffice.
