Alienware Area 51m/Customer service
How bad do you hate yourself. If ordering an Alienware DON'T.
What a nightmare. Ordered in October, delivery estimated in November, It arrives the end of January.
Customer service, what a joke. I paid $270 for in house for in home service - doesnt exist. In home service means you get the priviledge of printing an RMA in the comfort of your home-WHAT BS. Or, if your willing, they'll talk you through it (BUT YOUR RESPONSIBLE IF IT BREAKS WHILE FOLLOWING THERE INSTRUCTIONS). WHAT A JOKE.
This company must spend all its money on marketing.
GIVE ME DELL ANY TIME. I HOPE THESE PEOPLE GO OUT OF BUSINESS.

first of all wrong forum for this post
Second of all, Welcome to RR!!!
Third, think about it with a dell, how many times have you EVER heard of a tech from dell actually visiting a home to fix one of there PC's? NEVER, so any in house warranty you pay for from either gateway, dell, compaq, etc...etc.....is nothing but gas money for the VP's new porsche.

Alienware vs dell
Stant;
I dont know about your experience. But Dell has come to my home numerous time to repair issues when they happen. So far from funding a Porsche, they paid and performed as promised.
Alienware is the worst experience I have had.
These people are bad people, period

Three weeks after my wife bought a Dell, it messed up. She called support, they walked her through some stuff to get it back up, and determined that the hard drive was messed up. Two days later, there was a tech at the door with a new hard drive. He copied all her stuff to a CD, replaced the drive, installed the OS, reinstalled all her stuff, said "have a nice day", and left. He drove 30 miles from his shop to our house to make this repair.

I recently placed an order for an Area-51m 7700 myself. Up to this point, I am pleased with the service I have received from Alienware. I wanted this laptop as a more portable gaming system, because my desktop (FX-53 on 6800 Ultra) is too big to lug around.
I've heard both positive and negative reviews about Alienware over the years. A lot of them seem to be from irate customers looking for someplace they can vent their frustration, thus Resellerratings. I am in no way advocating for Alienware, because they probably deserve blame in many situations.
But to say their entire company is bad is misleading. Every corporation, and I don't care which, is bound to have problems. No one is perfect, let alone a company/corporation which employs many people. Throw in extremely advanced technology, and bad things sometimes happen.
A lot of the complaints seem to be about either bad customer service, back orders, or delays. I have yet to receive any bad customer service, and I've called them 4-5 times now to inquire about backordered 6800 Go's. It took me almost 2 months to get a 6800 Ultra from Newegg, because supply simply could not keep up with demand. So this backorder situation hardly angers me. And delays? Come on. You are dealing with extremely advanced technology. It took me a full day just to build my desktop, and several more to work out all the quirks and get it running like I want. And shipping? It cost me almost $150 to have Newegg ship my desktop to me (another $50 from C3 for the case). Maybe if you paid $200 or more they could expedite the shipping (much more if you want a CRT moniter).
So here is my advice. Do your homework before making large purchases over the net. All this information about Alienware is featured in multiple magazines, forums, and this website. It was your choice to place the order, so you accepted that there might be backorders, delays and other unforeseen problems. Stop crying about it.

When people buy into the absolute B.S. of the Alienware PR machine and order an Alienware computer, they do so with the expectation that AW is a legitimate and forthright company. That means there is a certain expectation that AW will follow a set of rules that are generally accepted as "good business practices". When AW accepts your money, gives you a 3 week estimated shipping date, doesn't ship for over 3 months but beginning at the end of the 3rd week begin telling you lies about "the computer is now in production and will ship in 3-5 days" and then continue that crap for another 8 weeks followed by about 2 weeks of being told that "it shipped yesterday" when in fact it hadn't...well, that doesn't fall under the category of "unforeseen problems". That's fraud and is and should be totally unacceptable.
So I suggest that you get over the fact that you've tied your wagon to such a company and stop crying when people come on sites like this and point out how much your favorite company sucks.

And given the common logic that most satisfied customers actually do not leave feedback, I will take it that there are far more satisfied customers than angry ones.
For example. I've had 3 good experiences with Gamestop, and one terrible one. That one terrible one has now kept me from ordering from them. I had at least 4 great transactions with Frozencpu, but my last one was rather disappointing. But I will continue to do business with them. Why? Because I can accept and tolerate certain things. Delays in production time? Yes. Repeatedly sent faulty merchandise? No.
I will make sure to post my review when my laptop arrives, but any delay in production time is hardly going to frustrate me.

Just to add to the good Dell experiences... I have had Dell come to my house twice and place of business once over the course of owning three laptops from Dell. I find their service to be excellent.

Stealth834:
If you read their reviews (AW) here, it's going downhill steadily, I don't even consider them a boutique PC builders. Companies like Voodoo, FalconNW, Overdrive, Maingear, Thunderbox, and Velocity Micro don't really advertise, all their business come from words of mouth.

I researched alot on Alienware and Falcon and it was close but since Alienware didn't seem too reliable as of late by looking at their 6 month ratings and may have (IMO) expanded too fast, too quickly, I ordered from Falcon. Although I don't have my computer yet I'm pretty glad I did so far as I haven't heard the negative things about Falcon like I have Alienware. Although I can say the same of Voodoo PC but then they are beyond expensive, they're more for lottery winners than ppl who simply make a good wage.
