Want to buy: Desktop or laptop

I am looking for a new computer. I will list my required features and the features that I would like to have. Please send me a quote for a system that meets all of my requirments and any of the nice to have features I list if they have only a small impact on price and note that impact. I am willing to spend a bit more if it is a laptop.

I am open to used systems, custom built systems, refurbished systems. Value is my chief concern.

I can pay promptly via several methods, we can work that out quickly if you send a quote that I like.

Required Features:
CPU: 1.8Ghz or better, any brand
10/100 NIC (on board is fine)
DVD Drive
80 GB HD (less is OK on laptop)
512 MB RAM
v92 56K modem (on board is fine)
Licensed Operating System pre-installed (Lindows/Linspire is ok, other linux distros will also be considered)
1.44 MB Floppy
USB 2.0
Video (on board is fine)
Sound (on board is fine)
266FSB

Nice to have features:
CPU 2Ghz or better
Mother board able to take faster CPU if I want to upgrade.
Quick Ram
333 or 400 FSB
Laptop
If Laptop some accessories would be nice... docking station, extra battery, extra power cord(s), etc...
120 or 160 GB HD
Windows (linux is almost as good for me, but dual boot would be good for those few applications they dont have for linux)
Firewire
Additional Software:
a) Anti-Virus
b) Office Suite (star office, open office, lindows office, etc... )
c) Internet tools
i) Instant Messanger (GAIM for linux works)
ii) Web Browser
iii) Email client
iv) Newsgroup reader
v) GUI FTP client
d) Multimedia tools
i) CD/DVD Burning tools
ii) CD/MP3 Playing utility
iii) MP3 Riping utility
I believe all the above software comes in the Lindows and LinspireLive package which I see selling on ebay for $3. I just want it pre-installed.
e) standard tools/games

Send the full list of specs to me via email or PM with price, but post here too so I get the email notification that someone is contacting me. I am prepared to act very soon, so please send quotes asap.

Regards,
Jason

LOL...that software will probably end up costing more than the system. OS, anti-virus, Nero and Microsoft Office are quite expensive.

That is why I am not asking for microsoft... freeware or cheapware is fine. i.e., Lindows and LinspireLive you can get a licensed copy of both for $3 + $4 shiping. Between the two of those, you have most everything I listed.

im thinkin of selling my system funny that you mention it. it meets all your requirements and more. used for high performace gaming so i dont think you will want all the extras but its worth a try....

AMD Athlon XP 3000+
EPoX Mobo (too lazy to find the model # supports 400mhz FSB)
1gb (2x512) RAM dual channelled
BFG FX5900 Ultra (can take out and price will be MUCH cheaper)
420watt RaidMax Dual Fan PSU
Sony 4x DVD+-RW
40gb Hard Drive (sorry, i never use a lot of space)
5 80mm Case Fans
2 blue cold cathlode beams next to side window
all in a really cool Powmax case

asking a lot because its a REALLY nice system. but if your interested in a high performance system this is the ticket man! not sure on a price maybe someone in this forum can price it (prefferably someone i trust). if not, i will make a new thread in a few weeks about the selling of the system (once i get a final price). thanks.

Here is something along the lines of what I was thinking, if some system builder wanted to pick up these parts, put them together and install a little software and mark it up so you make a profit, that would be ideal. I want a good value, inexpensive PC, but I just dont feel like spending the time on parts ordering, assembly, and software/drivers setup this time around. I did the digging on what I think is a good parts selection. The total for the parts listed are $297 assuming I provide the DVD+-RW, Floppy, and modem and you get the $30 video card. And not much more if you have to buy those 3 parts and you dont want the ones I have for some reason. Thanks on the laptops I have seen offered, but I think they are all more then I want to spend right now.

ok, but im thinkin of building your system for you. the problem is.... i have absolutly NO experience for any Redhat OS (or any OS besides Windows and Mac). should be easy but..... i dont know. the hardware is a sinch! but i would like to see if i can buy it all from one place (prefferably Newegg cause of low prices, huge selection, and fast shipping cause they are like 300 miles from where i live). let me do a little shopping on Newegg and i'll see what the total price is for those items. be back in like 20 mins thanks. but i know its not gonna be that cheap.

ok, i got a total that was pretty far from yours but it will get your computer a lot faster. newegg stuff usually gets to me in 2 days if i buy before noon and it will only take me one day to get it all built and OSed and stuff. so if i get the parts from newegg, i can get it shipped to you in 3 days. sound good? only thing is the total (for just the parts) on Newegg is $384.43 but i dont know about those guys your getting good dealse from. Newegg is reliable, and quick. no telling how much of a hassle it would be to get it from those other stores. i dont know what the final price will be i usually charge a fixed rate for these things but i'll let you chose. oh by the way, its almost the same stuff some is better some is not as good:

AMD AthlonXP 2600+
Syntax S746FX motherboard that supports DDR400 and 333FSB
Connect3D ATI Radeon 7000 64mb
A-Data 512 DDR400 Memory
Excel Stor 80gb 7200rpm Hard Drive
Encore 56k Internal Modem
Artec 16X DVD-ROM and 48X CD-ROM
Teac 1.44mb Floppy Drive
Powmax 0808 Biege Case w/ 350watt Power Supply

what do you think?
