I know a high school kid about to go to school and hes gonna be needing a computer. i only need a socket A motherboard with SDRAM slots and hopefully onboard video. a cheap case a psu and a CPU cooler for a 800mhz duron. that should be it they have an old computer i can salvage a hdd and a cdrom from. I want to buy all these things but i kinda wanna keep everything VERY cheap lets see what we can do if not i think i can work something else out for them.

I have an Athlon Thunderbird 1.2ghz and ECS K7S5A motherboard I am about to sell, just waiting for a replacement cpu to arrive you can use sdram or ddr on this motherboard so it allows upgradeability later just in case you might have some sdram on you. though no onboard video I could bundle a pci video card I have with it. nothing special, but neither would be onboard video, plus onboard video uses your system ram and you don't want it to be taking from what little you may have in the first place. its no micro atx motherboard but I figured I'd offer you some kind of alternative


also if you already have some sdram, this MSI motherboard would be a better choice then what you have picked out there:

My only question would be..are you SURE that motherboard supports that cpu? I am not implying it wouldnt...I just am a little foggy on the 1.6 durons etc

well burner and stuff can be added later, he can use AVG free version, its better then nothing. the support on the Duron may require a bios update so go to http://www.pcchipsusa.com/ and pick up the latest if it doesn't already have it, since the latest is an update for that
