You DO NOT want to run a DNS server. DNS problems are a nightmare to diagnose if you don't know what you are doing.

Is this a home or small business network? If so, you don't really need a domain controller or DNS or Active Directory. If you're just trying to learn, you can go to Start=>Settings=>Control Panel=>Administrative Tools=>Manage Your Server and then do lots of reading.

well for starters, i suspect you must have a pirated copy of the OS because no one spends the exorbitant amount of $$$ to buy enterprise server without knowing what dns is.

but to answer your question...... i suggest you go to the microsoft website and search their knowledge base...they have a number of good intro articles on setting up w2k and w2k3 server networks. a step-by-step explanation from us would take too long.

LOL PresterJohn

I also hope you have more reason to add a DC (appearantly with AD) than just wanting to "network" a couple computers.

In addition to PresterJohn's link, you can get a lot of information at http://labmice.techtarget.com/networking/dns.htm

well, you could have said that you have the evaluation kit.

in any event, the links and other suggestions still apply.
