Blocking an outbound email address??

I have someone that is complaining that they re getting spammed by our company. We do not send out mailing lists or anything however we do email people who visit our site and request info. This is an automated email.

Their email address is one that someone would use as a fake email address such as iam@home.com. So what I need to do is somehow block the email from being sent to this address when it is entered.

Any ideas??

Somebody/anybody could have placed you in their address book and then caught a virus that's doing the sending people etc etc...

if u are using OE then u can configure it to warn u if other applications try to send email as u. if u get such warnings after configuring OE in this way then at least it would point out the source of your problem.

u can also add rules to for OE mail in the tools menu under message rules.........mail

then i think if u check the "where the to line contains people"

then check "delete it in the little window below

then in the bottom window click the highlighted CONTAINS PEOPLE and you will be given a box to enter the name of the addressee in question.

best of luck

Your address is probably being spoofed. Happens a lot to common name domains. Both of my domains are being spoofed so much I get hundreds of undeliverable mail returns every day. Don't know what to do about it. It is my business name and my personal name, don't want to change either.

Here is some more history:

A person comes to the web site and is looking for a product, they enter fake name, phone number and email (all required fields before the list is available to look at). Based on the search, an automated email is generated and sent to the email address.

Since the email is fake, (for that person, but real for an unknowing person) the unknowing person is getting these generated emails and has never been to the site.

So it is not a matter of a virus or their email being on a list, it is just a coincidence that someone is using it as a fake email address so they do not get any emails.

The email is getting sent out through SMTP from a webserver, no exchange app to configure that I can tell so far....... one solution is to email the person to setup the rule in their email address to junk the email from us.......

I would say you need to contact them and explain to them exactly how you explained it here. If they're using a easily used address, like username@domain.com, then they should expect to get a LOT of e-mail. Especially from me.

Anyway, it's on their end that they'll have to block it more than likely.

I seem to agree with you on that. We cannot change our code and system for one person that has an email address being used.

I wonder how many emails they are getting from other sources.......

I'm curious as to what this email address. (I just use a@b.com)

As for the problem, confirm your systems are working properly and then suggest to them to create an email rule to automatically delete email from you.

If I let the email be known, I wonder how many porn sites they will be registered to. LOL
