Broke BIOS on Presario Laptop

Working on a Presario 1800-xl180 laptop, was trying to change the hard drive. Was in the BIOS and changed a setting from DOS to Other (I don't exactly know what it was called) haven't been able to get back into DOS since. It hangs on system configuration updated. PLEASE HELP!!!

Welcome to TechIMO

To re-enter the Bios, on a Compaq Presario - Press <Alt> <Ctrl> <Esc> at boot when you see the "Compaq" log in big letters.

If you can not get in this way, you may need to re-set the CMOS, by shorting the CMOS jumpers on the mobo.

It's F10 on the Compaq, but it won't back into the BIOS, it says entering setup but it hangs. Any clue on how to access the motherboard on this type of laptop?

cg97330,

I know on the Compaq Armada notebooks, you can reset the BIOS to the default settings by powering on the notebook while simultaneously holding down the FN key and the CTRL key.

I hope that works on your Presario, too!

Todd

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I ended up fixing it by pulling out the cmos battery and reinstalling it. Seemed to reset the bios back to factory default.
