SATA and IDE hard drive question
OK.
I am purchasing a custom made computer from Cyberpower Systems very soon (cheaper THROUGH them, than for me to actually buy all the parts and install)
Inside I will have PRE INSTALLED,
TWO Seagate 120GB 7200RPM Serial ATA 150 8MB Cache hard drives.
In the IDE Slots (im assuming they would just put them in IDE 1)
I will have an 8x DVD-+RW/CD-RW combo drive and also a 16x DVD Drive.
I plan on ALSO taking out a WD 120gig IDE out of my current computer to install on this one. I plan on hooking it up AS SOON AS I GET this new computer...my question is:
Is there any sort of BIOS or HD setting I should change in order to the system to recognize this hard drive properly? Will I leave the jumper setting the same? Will the system prompt me that I have two OS'es installed ?(im not going to format it until AFTER i copy all my files, programs, etc. off of it) If they (Cyberpower Systems) install the DVD drives in IDE 1, should I move them to IDE 2 and put the IDE Hard drive in the IDE 1 slot?
Thanks for the help!

how about this for the setup
SATA 1--------------Seagate 120Gig
SATA 2--------------Seagate 120Gig
IDE 1----------------WD 120Gig (master) Sony 16x DVD-Rom (slave)
IDE 2----------------NEC 8x dual format DVD-RW/CD-RW (master)
Will the system recognize this if i just 'plug and play the IDE HD in and switch it with the DVD Burner ?
(im assuming they will just install both optical drives on IDE1)

I'd slave the Sony on IDE 2.

Me too. Or I'd leave the WD 120G out all together. 360GB is a lot of storage.

don't be silly
On my P-3 I have almost 1 terabyte, 5x 100gig drives (why did they making these?) 2x 120gig drives, 2x 60gig drives and 1 40gig drive. THATS 900 GIGABYTES. I only have about 5 gigs left, It is all full of videos(about 500gb), pics(almost 40gb), and music(the rest of it). 10 drives, 2 ide controller cards, 2 cases placed side to side to put all the drives in, and 2 PSUs.

That's a lot of stuff.
But I disagree with the others about the channel placement. Lefty's makes sense, because it has the burner on a seperate channel, away from your 120GB WD, so it would be faster. So unless you were doing DVD rips to your 120GB, his solution would be the best off.

wouldn't having the dvd drive on the same ide channel as the hard drive slow the hd down?

if you brurning on the fly , from one drive to another you don't want both on the same ide cable .
for me the preformace different in sata and ide aren't that big unless you get he wd raptors . so my advice would get get ide drives , you can still use the sata connection with an adaptor . if you do your homework you can get two 120gb ide drives for the same cost as 1 sata drive
