ok I am upgrading my old Athlon 700 with PC133 RAM

So how does the new DDR ram work. mixing 2100 with 2700??

do they have to be same size and speed to take advantage of the DDR??

txs

Does your motherboard support DDR?

Cheers!

If you're mixing RAM, it'll run at the speed of the slowest stick of RAM (as DDR is backwards-compatible)....so if you mix PC2100 and PC 2700, both sticks will run at the speed of the PC2100. That said, I'd be leery about mixing with PC2700-have seen cases of instability when running 2 sticks of mismatched brands of PC2700, so mixing speeds with PC2700 may have the same effect...

Just out of curiousity, does PC133 SDRAM run with the slowest stick as well? I am running a 512MB SDRAM stick and was thinking about putting in the extra 128MB stick that I have just laying around. Will this be benificial or just slow things down??

RAM does NOT run at the slowest speed. If you're running a 133MHz FSB and are using DDR266, everything would run fine. If you dropped in a stick of DDR200, it will still run at 133MHz FSB and the DDR200 will be OC'd and may/may not run.

Same goes with PC133, it will run at 133MHz FSB, if you drop in a stick of PC100, the PC100 will be OC'd and may not run.
