Ok so my Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard has two onboard LAN ports. I think I read somewhere that you can connect another computer through the the other lan you aren't using to give that computer an additional internet connection. Is this possible and how?

oh and also, I'm running XP and the other computer I'm trying to hook up is on Knoppix 3.2

my first computer is connected through a router via cable modem

and yes yes, I realize I could hook the 2nd computer up to the router but I'm just trying to figure out how to do this!

You can, but you'll essentially be turning your computer into a router then. This may be undesirable because a) it wastes cpu cycles. b) you'll have to take a lot of precausions to secure it if you have a broadband connection to the Internet. For instuction on how to do it, search "routing and remote access" on Microsoft's site.
