I love this sub but i have a couple of questions about it. How high can i turn it up wiht out damaging it (and i don't want to do that the manual way...lol) One way to tell its really loud is if the driver is moving, cuz at low volumes it barely moves. I wanted to ask what the excursion limit is because i got the driver to move over an inch but i was scared to go louder, even though th ebass was still crystal clear. Its just me cuz i saved up for 2 years to get these and an audigy 2. Also I am asking if i will hear distortion in the bass first or damage the subwoofer because i want to know the distortion level but don't want to damage the subwoofer. I have never had a subwoofer over 20 watts untill now and its great. But now knowing the limit is driving me crazy. Just tell me how much of an movement you guys can get without distortion or damaging the subwoofer. I'm afraid to past like 1.5" (estimate) and i think thats the max basically. Thanx for all ur help

i dont know what kind of sub it is, but i know that quality subs can move quite a lot without blowing out. my friends 3 12s in the back of his car would routinely move up to about 4inches (2 in each direction). i dont think that these can handle that, but im sure that you would hear some distortion before damaging the speaker unless it was an overpowering extremely loud one hit that blew it out..

just my thoughts, dont hold me responsible..

Hehe, try it out at a store. In best buy, I got the sub driver to move a few inches, but the bass wass terribly distorted.

i dont think the 680's subwoofer has more than an inch of horizontal excursion. so.. dont start thinking that you can actually see the woofer move more than .5 inch either way (out and in).

If you're crazy about bass frequencies then the simplest trick is to point the sub at a corner of the room. My 680's sub is under my computer desk pointed at the corner closest too me. I have to turn the sub way down or it totally dominates all the other frequencies (which through my personal preference I don't like).
To each his own though, but remember the 'Made in China' label.
That, more than anything, should tell you not to push them too far.
Good Luck wallie_x

ok i think my dad might have ruined the sub by pushing it too far and not knowing. he was listening to songs (different language, hard to find) on a 28kbps stream which is like telephone quality. He turned it up to hear the mids and highs but they just weren't there since it was 28kbps and i think he ruined the sub. It is like 1:30 in the morning so i can't really do a rattle test. I heard the sub rattling like crazy and the subwoofer's driver moving like crazy (just over 1.5"). Since the computer table is in the middle of the room and the sub is near a closet, you can't really hear much bass unless you are in the opposite corner where the bass is CRAZY! Anyways getting back to the point, i heard the speakers give off this rattle while he was listening to songs, and i got so damn upset since i'm really poor and i saved up for 2 damn years to buy these things with a 20 dollar allowance....lol So i'll post again about the rattle tomorrow after i get a chance to check if it was just me or if it was really rattling I also have a question about the warranty. I bought this RETAIL from www.vibecomputers.com and i'm asking will i have warranty (like the 2 yr manufacturer warranty)??? I have heard somethign about having to cut off ur power cord on the sub WTF??!! Just fill me in on what i should do if there is a rattle since i bought them at the end of October, 2003 and recieved them at the beginning of November, 2003. I wonder if i had and still have warranty since i got them RETAIL. Please fill me in on what to do if the sub has a rattle.

Thanx for ur time

ok i think its not the subwoofer even though it seems its coming from the subwoofers direction. I tried the "Woofer Excursion test" and there is rattling onlly on certain frequencies and that is only when the subwoofer's driver is moving about an inch, which means it is really high volume. I keep my sub volume a notch above zero but still i am asking how high can i got before they will distort? I have pushed these speakers this far before but they never rattled then or they never made the closet doors rattle, now they are. I'm confused. It is the sub or something else. Please explain to me how to make sure its the sub.
