ASUS A7V8X-X PRoblems

I have a ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard and built computer myself less the a month ago. The system worked beautifully until my cable company tried to hook up a new cable modem (opted to buy one for 50$ as opposed to 'renting' for 10$ a month). I am not totally certain what he did, but could he not get new modem to work. He shut system down and left, saying he would have to figure out the problem and come back with someone else. When I turn computer back on, I got this error:
Award Boot Block Bios v 1.0
copyright [c] 1998,Award Software, Inc
BIOS ROM Check Sum Error
Detecting Floppy drive A Media.....
Boot Disk Failure
Please insert system disk
I tried to reset the CMOS by removing the battery and moving the jumper for the specified time. Still got the same message. Can anyone please help? This is driving me insane!

No, I cant access anything. When I boot the system, it beeps the first beep and some other ill sounding beep, (kinda deep and urrrp)and the error comes on the screen. I tried to insert my system disk, like the error says, but it just beeps twice and I get the same error **Boot Disk Failure
Please insert system disk**. I even tried to hold the delete button down while it boots (as instructed by the 'owners manuel' ugh!) to no avail..Thanks for ur speedy reply.

That's actually sounding like a damaged BIOS, which is quite bad!

You can Try to re-flash the BIOS, which sometimes works great! Here are the exact steps you should take to do this:

At another computer...
(1) Grab a floppy disk and format it
(2) Download your BIOS (A7V8X-X), extract it from the ZIP file, and drop it on the disk. (It is named: a7v8xx08.awd)
(3) Download the Asus Aflash BIOS flashing utility, extract it from the zip file, and dtop it onto the disk too. (It is named AFLASH.EXE)
(4) Open Notepad, and type the following line in it: AFLASH a7v8xx08.awd (there IS a space), then save it to your floppy disk also (using File -> Save As... A:\autoexec.bat) *Look at the file on the disk, and make sure that it ends in .bat and not .txt or it won't work!*
(5) Reboot your (broken) computer with the floppy disk in the drive, and wait for the BIOS flashing program to load. Proceed to 'update' the BIOS using the steps on your screen

That's it! Assuming all went well, your computer should now be bootable again. (You may want to enter the BIOS settings and Load the Defaults)

If this flashing procedure doesn't work, you have 2 other options:
- Get a replacement BIOS chip from somewhere
- Contact Asus and have them replace the BIOS chip (or entire motherboard)

Good Luck!!
