i messed up my bios, i tried to change the FSB frequency from 166MHz to 200MHz and put the system setting on turbo and now the PC loads up but goes to a blank screen with no beep or nething.
is the only way to fix this by clearing the CMOS and opening up the PC and takin the battery out or is there another way???

sometimes you can disconnect the power for about 1-3 minutes and the reconnect it, restart cpu hold down the Del. key and see if it allows you in the bios, or you can use the reset jumpers on the board, your manuel should tell you how, usually turn power off, move jumper over on notch, wait 30 seconds or so, then put it back. If that doesn't work, pull out battery and see if that works...good luck...
always good to up your FSB a little at a time,

I heard holding down the Insert key when you turn on the computer will reset the BIOS, but that might be with only certain boards.

No, not to enter the BIOS, that's always delete. I mean to RESET the CMOS.

If go to the mobo manufacturer site and look at the mobo diagram, it should list a three pin configuration for resetting the cmos. Then you just power down the system, unplug the power supply, short the 2 cmos pins with your juper for about 15 seconds, replace the jumper to it's correct position, and you should be good to go.
Next time you go to OC, I would consider increments of 5MHz or less, at a time.

My MSI board will RESET 'sometimes' using the INSERT key. Sometimes I do have to go into the PC and use the jumper but not very often. |
