CPU Temp Questions.
Ive been searching around and, i cant find a good answer to this but, i cant find anything definite.
Right now my cpu temp is at 47 degrees and, its mostly idle. During gaming, it goes up to about 51-52 degrees. Is there any kind of place to see what a good average temperature for my cpu is? I know that the meltdown temp for my processor is 80 or, at least i think it is. For a long time i thought my temp was pretty good until i found some other people with cpus a lot faster than mine and also aircooled getting temperatures in the 35-40 range without even having a good fan.
Im using an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ but, i have it clocked down to 1.3 Ghz (1500+ speed).

52c is ok at full oad . you have no worries with that .
people stress on temp more than they should in my mind . high 50's in when i start to think about it at full load .

48-52 idle
55-58 under 100% load (rendering for 3hrs)
My CPU alarm is set to engage at 70

It all depends on your set up Darkstar. If you have bad airflow in your case, then you are going to have higher CPU temps than others who have wind tunnels for cases. Also, if you are using the stock heat sink, or a heatsink that has accumulated dust, you are going to see higher temps than those of us who have chucked out the $50 for a high end, really really cool heatsink and fan
I have to ask, why did you underclock your processor? If you want to run that slow, I'll trade you my 1.4ghz Tbird

As long as your system is stable, I think your temps are fine. If you want them lower, try cutting an 80mm blowhole in the top of your case and maybe another intake somewhere low.
I don't think there is need for all of that but it would make a fun little project and pull your temps down a little lower. Maybe then you could run at stock speeds |

as for your CPU speed, why did you underclock it? if you underclock it because of stability and heat problems, then you need extra cooling fans in your rig. maximize your cpu speed and think of other ways to cool your cpu. good luck.

It could be the difference between a Palamino and a T-bred. I have several Pally's and a couple of T-breds and the Pally's always run hotter. If not, Arctic Silver? I dropped the temp on an XP 1700+ pally 13 degrees celcius by adding ASIII and using a Thermaltake 7 heatsink and fan instead of the stock AMD hs/f. |

The main thing i was having a problem with was i do have good airflow, ive got fans in the double digits, all the wires are nice and tucked out of the way, rounded cables, Thermaltake Volcano 11 for the cpu, ive got artic silver, anodized titanium cpu shim, etc... So, it should have been way cooler than these people using the crappy stock stuff in their dells.
Turns out the answer was a little simpler, apparently my temp sensor was just broken... Got a new one, its down to 36 C clocked up to full speed now.
