Help whit newly bought RW-DVD-player

Help whit newly bought RW-DVD-player

I got windows XP home edition, my problem is that the DVD player only seems to be able to read cd’s no dvd. When I don’t have a dvd inside the drive says “ DVD-RW-UNIT“ when I put a dvd in drive the name change to “CD-UNIT”.

The dvd player is from the company “www.liteonit.com” and the players name is (I think) “Internal ATAPI/E-IDE”.

I put the DVD in to the computer in the normal way, they wanted me to connect it to the master for best performance, but I ignored that don’t know so much about those stuff.

So do a DVD you put in to your computer start to work direct???, it chould read the cd direct, and I didn’t se any drives in the two cd’s which came along.

The two cd’s was

cd 1

Some cd whit software to manage the cd dvd writer “SONIC MyDVD”, It said on that cd “For windows 2000 and windows XP users, please uninstall Intell Application Accelerator (IAA) driver (if installed)”.

If I got IAA can I find it in add remove programs in the control panel?

CD 2. Well this said….

1 dos driver
2 Cyberlink PowerDVD
3 Some text files

I have installed them both but it don’t help

Thx for any help given friendly Pamlor…

Hrm.... Before u can use an empty DVD does it have to be formatted?

I can read DVD, but when I put in an empty DVD, the software asked for it to be formatted.

It formatted it to UDF format, (the drive still stand as (CD-UNIT)).

But when i use the burning software after does 15 MB correspond to 1GB.

So what i wonder now is UDF for CD or DVD

Only rewritable discs must be formatted. UDF format is for "packet" writing, used by programs that can write one bit of data at a time, as opposed to an entire disc.

It would help to know what program you are using with your drive. Did this come with the drive? Can you tell the model number (since Lite-On makes a number of different drives)?

The software is SONIC DLA.

But the the only thing i can find in the cardboard is Internal ATAPI/E-IDE.

But i will check the drive now, and se if i can find any names on it.

This may sound stupid, but have you checked to see if your CD burn program is pointed to another drive?

I just put in my DVD Burner, but Nero was defaulting to my CD Burner, so it kept telling me it couldn't read the disk. After the second try I figured it out. Duh...

Just a thought...
