Like versions on like OS

Who here installs like version software on a like OS?

I'm talking about putting Office 2K on Win2K. Or Corel WP 2K on Win2K. If it looks like something out of Playskool, then it goes on XP.

I find I don't install the "latest and greatest" because I wanna keep the versions the same.

The newer versions of Outlook have grown quite annoying so I try to avoid anythign past Outlook 2000. (I LOATHE that profile wizard, and being an exchange admin I have to connect to different mailboxes very often).

I also avoid WinXP (much for the same reason with the overwhelming/tiring wizards) so...

I pretty much use Office2000 with Win2000

It seems that like office and like os are usually written (coded) for each other. If you install later office (for example) with advanced features then the os cannot run those features unless you update your mdac, msi, directx, or even the browser. I run win98se and it's a hybrid os because of upgradings and not upgradings.

before i use office with the same version of windows. but lately, i upgraded the office. now windows 2000 sp4 with office xp.. quite a match. i like the interface of office xp. planning to install office 2003 just to see the difference.

We dont use anything above office97.
Match it with all o\s's , xp....2000...98....whatever.
Why spend the xtra cash for almost the same thing.

Yep! I run Office 2000 on my XP box. On my employers laptop we are running Office 97 on XP.

Any version of office works fine for me, as long as it has Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (and only because mainstream computing requires me to have these programs).

As far as the Frontpage/Access, IMO they suck. I use Dreamweaver, and have no need for Access.

Microsoft is only here for the people that won't take the time to learn the "real" programs, and that is the majority of the public, so we are forced into using thier programs.

I thought I was the only one who did that! I feel weird when I have to install for example Office XP in Windows 2000. I know its crazy but I just like to have Windows 2000 with Office 2000, etc. Also I really dont like to install Internet Explorer 6 in Windows 98 or 2000. It feels and looks weird and I dont like that. Same thing with Service pack 3 for Windows 2000 with the Automatic updates with the XP icon in the control panel. I think its ugly so I just stay with Service pack 2. I know its weird but I just do it that way. So youre not alone in doing that ER.
