XP Bottom Line
What is the Bottom line for installing XP?
I know what M$ says, but what is the slowest machine you have XP on?
I have a 400,128 PC133,16MB PCI 3D Video. Is it worth it to even try it?
I'll prolly try it tomorrow anyway, but I thought I'd ask

No. At least I wouldn't. I've got it on a few PIII/800's w/ 256MB and 16MB AGP cards, I wouldn't go any lower.
EDIT- Used the wrong smiley.

This is coming from a hatred of 98,and ME.I have it on this 850,and it's kinda sluggish with 128 MB ram.256 really helps though.

I forgot to mention that I have all the "eye candy" off as well. Now that's something to hate.

I have it on a celeron 600mhz, 384 pc133 & onboard vid.
It has all the visual effects turned off, and I think its OK for browsing, email & stuff like that.
I have to say it's been the most stable pc I have, though not the fastest ..

It's my htpc project.
Currently I have xp running on cel700/256mb sodimm laptop. It runs extremely fine, no lagging, nothing.

I've ran it on a 750,and now this 850,both with 128MB PC133, I'm not sure how it will do on a 400 though.I will say that when I dropped in the other stick of 128 yesterday, this machine perked right up

Let us know what happens when you load XP!
Amazing what a difference memory can make, always good to upgrade that first...PC-133 still exists??? |

| Yeah well I'm a poor boy
I think I will throw XP on there just to see what happens. It's not like I have any pressing buisness for the next few hours.
I hadn't thought about 2k.It has ME on it,but I am having terrible problems with drivers, and BSODs.ME doesn't have a lot of support as far as drivers goes.

2K = stripped down XP just about, you wouldn't gain anything by having XP on there IMHO. But, as you mentioned, if you've got a few hours to kill it would be a good test, so make sure you post back with results. That's an order!!! |
