CPU Upgrade Question

I'm currently running a Via P4PB Ultra-Url. My CPU is 2.4ghz and 533 FBS. 2gb DDR266 RAM. The rig is up and running smooth. I just aquired a P4 3.06 CPU and 1.5gb DDR333 RAM. Will I see enough of a preformance in crease to justify going to the trouble of installing the faster goodies? The MoBo supports up to 533FBS.
It will support up to 3gb DDR400. Would I have to re install my OS?

You won't have to reinstall.

I'd say you'd only really benefit if the FSB of the P4 3.06 is faster. Just having the higher FSB RAM is not going to make the system faster.

That's good to hear.I'll save the goodies for an other project. (Boy! I've got too much time and computer stuff on my hands)

If the 3.06 is 533 as well, put it in. You'll get an extra 600MHz at least.

Just out of curiosity I put the PC2700 RAM in. Machine booted every thing was smooth, but slower. I put my PC2100 back in. I'm
not going to fix it any more. Thanks for the advise.

To tell you the truth I don't have a clue. My trouble shooting skills are limited. The only thing I can offer is to tell you to post this question as a new thread. There is a forum called VIARENA. It is similar to Techimo. It has a forum devoted to the P4 Via Mainboards.

You could do a Google on "beep codes" Your problem sounds like it may involve memory.

not sure if that mobo will do the 800fsb . as far as the memory it won't make any real difference the 533 fsb is 133 x 4 =533 well 532 to be exact . and pc2100 = 133fsb .

if you run the memory at 166 , pc2700 , it will be outta sinc with the fsb and might run slower , well i see you already figured that out . so i gues si will shut up now hahahah

ohh an hi there unkie bob ain't heard from ya in a while thought ya fell in

Greetings Omar;
This MoBo will run an 800FBS but not supported. 533 is it.
