Hey, I'm new to these forums and wanted to ask you guys if I should just build an enitrely new computer and put linux un this computer, or is there any hope of just doing some major upgrades to this thing? Here are the specs:
(Built by me a long while ago)
Some generic AOpen Mid-tower
AOpen 250w Power Supply
AOpen AX34 Pro II Mobo
Intel Celeron 1.0 GHz CPU
AOpen model Nvidia TNT2 Pro Riva (64 mb i believe)
DLink Wireless LAN PCI Card
Combo CD-R/DVD Drive
CDRW Drive
Standard 1.44 MB Floppy
I plan to buy Half-Life 2 and Doom 3, so I know I'll need a new GFX card (sapphire 9600xt 256mb) cuz I can barely play CS and VIce City on my vid card! I know I'll need a new mobo and CPU soon, but what is the cheapest possible solution here? What should be updated in your opinion? Or should I just build another comp? (Thank god I can buy wholesale lol!) Thanks for the help!
You'd need to build a whole new computer if you really want to play Doom3 and HL2 well.... That motherboard will be limited to how fast of a CPU you can put in there... I belive a P3 is the best you'll be able to get. It also doesn't support DDR memory... So yeah...
you can save the:
1.44 MB Floppy
CDRW Drive
Combo CD-R/DVD Drive
for the other stuff you need a new system.....
