yet another laptop battery problem

Hi,
first time posting to any forum so please bear with me if I bust any protocols.
My question is has anyone had a laptop that,s battery starts saying 0% runs for 15 mins or so then says 16% and continues to run for a couple of hours.
Tried the usual charge/discharge cycle but to no avail, reseated the battery as well
Not to bothered about the power meeter etc but the constant bleeping for the first 15 mins or so puts the dampers on multi media
laptop is a Hi grade M6450 and is about 6 months old

any help or advice appreciated

If the laptop is 6 months old it should be still under warranty, don't mess with it, send it in. Call the vendor you purchased it from or the manufacturer for warranty information. The manufacturer may have a support site. IBM and Toshiba have very extensive support sites and your manufacturer might have one too.

Hi,
thanks for the reply aL
Ive contacted hi grade and there battery warranty is just 6 months ,and would you believe it my registration is just over 6 months.I tried to talk them round to sense or goodwill but drew a blank.best they could offer was (no surprise) to sell me a new one for 120gbp
The battery has the life i'd expect just the metering / power management seems screwed up

Funny thing - I have a Hi-Grade laptop too which is nearly 12 months old and my battery appears to be "fried". The meter shows 0% and a red X through the battery icon as though I havent got one. When I pull the power plug out it shuts down immediately ie no power whatsoever. Hi-Grade have told me that I need to buy a new battery. My laptop doesnt have battery learning either.

Hi Ianb,
guess Im not in as bad a way as you, althought the battery LED and power meter don't seem to know what day it is the battery life is actually OK once the first 15 mns of flashing red LED and bleeping is past it riuns for about an hour and a half.
I wouldn't rate higrades after sales service one bit though

guess I'll wait and see as i can live with it for now and look for a third party battery at the right price

I'll add to post if i find one........

rgds,
Steve.

Hi steve
The equivalent battery appears to fit a Mitac 8175. I have found this for £109.04 all in.

regards
Ian
