Speakers - static noise!

I have the Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard wiht onboard sound. After formatting and re-installing XP, my speakers make a very annoying static sound when they're turned on. I can hear audio coming out when I play music but the static is much louder. I even tried different speakers and headphones but still makes static. I'm guessing it has to do with the onboard sound, but what could it be>?

I had a mystery noise drive me nuts for a whille. It was a humming noise coming from my speakers. Turned out to be a bad dimmer on my desk lamp!

Static is usually and RF source though. You might also want to check and make certain that any electrical connections nearby are tight. plugs plugged all the way in screws that hold connectors are screwed in that sort of thing. (sometimes those screws connect the shield in the wire to ground, causes an RF leak when they aren't connected)
