60Hertz vs 75 Hertz.

In my Sony Trinitron 21" lately i am obligated to use lower
refresh rates because of some Electrical problems.
the image is not stable, it shakes baddly when i set it to 75Hertz.
Does this affect me when playing games?
and How?
What are refresh rates for anyways?

A lower refresh rate will probably hurt your eyes. 72.5Hz is like the minimum that is normal.

If you're getting "shakes" try upgrading the driver for the monitor. Using the "Default Monitor" driver is not always the best.

it depends how sensitive your eyes are to flicker. I still see flicker at 85Hz, but not at 100.

I simply cant stand having 60hz in my monitor. My eyes are sensitive so they start to hurt after a while and I get headache. I use 75hz now and thats ok for me.

ThePianoMan, your screens refresh rate has no affect on how many fps you get in your games. The refresh rate, if i understand it correctly, is how often your screen gets "redrawn". So if you have a flicker, that can cause eye strain. Also, people are different. Some people have "fast eyes" in where they need to have a high refresh, 85hz and above (like me), in order to not see the flicker. Some people can get along just fine at 60hz.

are certain refresh rates better for certain resolutions? i use 1280x1024 on my 17" and right now im at 60hz but i can see it flicker a little. what rr would be best for me? i heard the higher your refresh rate the more wear and tear your monitor goes through so i want mine to last as long as possible
